Here’s When Demolition On One Bayfront Plaza Is Expected to Begin

Demolition at One Bayfront Plaza is tentatively expected to get underway in early October, according to a memo posted to social media by @AllThings305.

The memo was issued by the manager of an office building across the street.

The first phase, which includes demolition of a garage and a portion of the structure closest to the street, is expected to last through December, with the second phase beginning in January.

One lane will be blocked on Biscayne Boulevard and SE 1st Street during the first phase, between 8PM and 2 AM.

A demolition permit for the 19-story building was approved in June, but is in revision, Building Department records show.

Miami has stringent demolition requirements and will monitor the demolition process throughout, the memo states.

The owner of the property is planning a landmark 1,049-foot supertall tower on the site, with offices, a convention hotel, residences, and a shopping mall.

Hopefully one of these will be an observation deck like The Edge in NY!!

I still have hope for a revived SkyRise plan for that, with a new design, of course.

The SkyRise was a tacky idea. Glad it got shut down. Very childish project

Every major city has a signature observation deck, so the SkyRise wasn’t childish but a great. I hope we will soon get it revived!!

…and most of those observation decks are located in office towers, and not in a dedicated toenail clipper observation tower.

The key word is “new design,” meaning not the toenail clipper

Yes, so many people have an office on the Eiffel Tower🙄🙄🙄

Marcelle wants a free observation deck built on someone else’s dime. Marcelle does not understand how the world works.👌😂🤡

I actually loved the design but I’d be ok with getting another needle looking observation deck there, as long as we get one.

Go figure, when Arquitectonica is not designing another box, it’s an f-ing toenail clipper.

Agreed! Hard pass.

Miami is not Tulsa, we don’t need a tacky, antiquated idea to “level-up”. The only people that like this idea are out-dated boomers whose understanding of Miami is from the 1970s. We’re past this people.

Both residents and visitors would take a well-designed and dynamic retail street that’s authentic to place as a destination to visit over a tacky monument any day.

Because of the bay and ocean, each with their own skyline, creating multiple water and city views, etc and Miami being the biggest sunbelt coastal city, it’s surprising there’s no observation decks planned. I guess it doesn’t fit in with a tropical/beach themed location, but even central FL has the citrus tower.

Or you can just buy a top floor penthouse in one of the super tall condos nearby and have your own? THINK BIGGER BROKIE

Observation decks are hardly used by locals as they are mostly tourist attractions, which would help boosting our local economy and improving our skyline. I might need to think bigger but you could start with thinking, period.

The multimillionaire owners in these condos don’t want an observation deck and tourists trampling through their homes just to earn a few extra bucks in charging access admissions. Builders know this—hence no observation decks. It is Iwatch who needs to pull his head out of their rear end.

It will be a while before anything is built here, I hope they don’t compromise and just build another box

It’s been 18 years since Tibor Hollo (RIP) & his Sons have been promising a new tower to replace this eyesore and yet nothing has been done. They should sell it to another developer who will actually build something on this prominent site.

The views from this building are going to be better than most buildings in Brickell.

This site is taking a n eternity to get something built

And it’ll take several more years at a minimum for the developer to break ground

18 years to be exact. It was 2006 when the Hollo Group announced they would be building a Supertall on this site.

Remember when they used to just dynamite the buildings down? A lot more dramatic

MiamiRob

Can’t do that with a building full of Asbestos.

Craving for New Renderings

I hope there’s new renderings for this project . The renderings from the last decade are way outdated . That location deserves a tower like the Burgh Kalifa with a wow factor spire. Enough of flat tops buildings please !

Can’t they just dynamite the building? Is it because it’s too expensive or because there’s regulations against it? One BCC site took forever to demolish, in part because the stupid planners didn’t see the risk of debris collapsing to the street.

Sorry

Asbestos & risk associated, from what I understand
