Icelandair Announces First-Ever Flights To Miami

Icelandair has announced that it will fly to Miami for the first time in its history.

The airline will use one of its brand new Airbus A321LR aircraft on the route, which it just received the first of last month.

The plane has seats for 187 passengers, including 22 saga premium seats and 165 economy seats.

Service between Miami International and Reykjavik will begin on October 26, 2025, and will initially run three times weekly through March 29, 2026.

The average flight from Reykjavik to MIA is expected to take an estimated 7 hours and 40 minutes. On the return, it will take 8 hours and 40 minutes.

MIA now has regularly scheduled to all five sovereign Scandinavian countries, and a total of 21 destinations in Europe.

There is already – i think

No there isn’t. MIA officials have promised for decades that there would be non stop flights to Asia and yet none so far.

Technically, the Middle East is part of Asia. There are flights to Dubai. And Tel Aviv.
But agree, we’re missing direct flights to Japan or other East Asian country

MIA should have direct flights to Athens, Greece!

Why not fly in the summer? I like to go to Iceland, but not in the winter, too cold.

“ will initially run three times weekly through March 29, 2026” which means that after that it might run even more often. This seems to be a trial period to assess foot traffic.

It’s great that Icelandair has joined the other Scandinavian countries in linking with Miami and back. It would be even cooler if all those Scandinavian countries would establish diplomatic consulates in Miami as opposed to having DC as the closest diplomatic mission for FL.

Can we get newer planes though? And an upgraded business lounge? The current one is terrible.

“The airline will use one of its brand new Airbus A321LR aircraft on the route, which it just received the first of last month.” Were you hoping they could perhaps go into the future and bring back planes from the year 2075?

Saying the newer Airbus A321LR only hints at the model and not the year so it could be a 2024 model or 1992 model. I fly very often and I can attest that the airbuses we get in Miami are older models compared to other cities like NYC. So no, I’m not hoping for them to bring planes for the future but simply to bring latest models in line with what other big cities get. Thank you.

There is no 1992 A321LR. The LR is a brand new version of the A321. Just like the A321neo and A321XLR. So yes, this is a brand new A321. Announced in 2015, first delivered 2018.

the A321 LR entered service in 2019 and ICELANDAIR just started to take deliveries in 2024.

I read very often, I can attest that the very first Airbus A321Long Range aircraft were flight testing in 2018 and delivered to their first customers in 1Q 2019.

The Turkish Business lounge is the only one available, I believe, and it serves all the airlines so it doesn’t feel like a business class at all. The food quality is also terrible. We deserve better for sure.

Thats in the Central and south Terminals, but in North terminal there are two admiral clubs and one Centurion Lounge. All of them 10 times better than Turkish´s

One?
I mostly fly out of Terminal D and there about 4 lounges to chose from in Terminal D alone.
Occasionally, I fly out of Terminal J where there is a Delta, Turkish, and LATAM at least. There are a few others if I’m not mistaken.

They should use a beautiful American built Boeing Dreamliner. An Airbus just caught fire in South Korea.

They’re all much safer and nicer than ever we’re just exceedingly stringent now.

Even despite what happened yesterday, South Korea and plane crashes go together like ketchup and mustard.
