Institute of Contemporary Art Prepares For Construction With Utilities Deal

Plans to build the Institute of Contemporary Art in the Design District continue to advance.

Earlier this month, the museum signed a deal to for utilities that would serve the proposed 33,649 square foot museum. A construction permit remains pending.

In June, Miami’s Historic Preservation Board approved the museum, after winning support from neighbors in Buena Vista. The city’s Planning and Zoning Appeals Board voted in June to recommend denial of a zoning change needed to build the museum, but the city commission nevertheless approved the changes needed, clearing the project.

ICA officials have previously said that they hope to open for Art Basel 2016. It is unclear if they are still aiming to to open by that date.
