Interior Demolition Continues At One Bayfront Plaza

Interior demolition is continuing at the One Bayfront Plaza supertall site in Downtown Miami, according to photos by Phillip Pessar.

Miami’s Building Department records show that an interior demolition permit was approved on May 1.

The permit is for interior demolition of 278,000 square feet of space, at an estimated cost of $400,000.

County records show that the 19-story building on the site was built in 1958.

As of this morning, there does not yet appear to be any other demolition permits pending, other than for interior work.

Florida East Coast Realty, which has built some of Miami’s most prominent buildings over the decades, is planning a 1,049-foot supertall on the site that will become the city’s tallest.

Get rid of this eyesore already, it should’ve been gone from the skyline three decades ago at least!

Next should be Holiday Inn and Yve!

Disagree with Yve. It should be restored to it’s 1920s glory, when it opened as the Watson Hotel, and be used as a boutique hotel. It’s last remnant of the grand hotels that lined Biscayne Boulevard and made it famous.

That disgusting thing is past saving.

It’s nuts how that Holiday Inn is still there, it was supposed to be torn down along with the Biscayne Plaza tear down which happened years ago

My first night in Miami was at the Howard Johnson that is now the Marquis. That Ho Jo had to go and boy did it get smashed quick! The Holiday Inn is a dinosaur waiting extinction, but you’re so right in that it’s incredible it’s still here and not condemned 😂

YVE? whatever worth saving was destroyed decades ago. BUT, whatever is worth saving here should be. Miami’s now long and interesting history should be taught amongst the citizenry. The city is old enough now that its/our roots have sprouted. We need to preserve this for future generations. Miami’s past lack of community spirit (generally speaking) was due to the transient nature of many living here and our tourist base. The city is coming into its own now and we need to encourage Miamians embracing our town; maybe by revitalizing past campaigns like ‘My Miami’ and the ‘The Big Orange’. We will all be better stewards of this truly unique place because of it.

I hope we can see the final design soon. I’m sure it will be a beauty.

Hopefully this “super tall” is by far the best looking building in the whole city. Nothing phoney just give us the goods.

If they find any ‘items’ when digging, would someone just leave it in a park to find later ? No delays due to finding a hairbrush from 1850 etc.
