Interior Demolition Underway At One Bayfront Plaza Supertall Site

Interior demolition is now underway at the One Bayfront Plaza supertall site in Downtown Miami, according to new photos by Phillip Pessar.

Miami’s Building Department approved an interior demolition permit on May 1.

The permit is for interior demolition of 278,000 square feet of space, at an estimated cost of $400,000.

County records show that the 19-story building on the site was built in 1958.

As of this morning, there does not yet appear to be any other demolition permits pending, other than for interior work.

Florida East Coast Realty, which has built some of Miami’s most prominent buildings over the decades, is planning a 1,049-foot supertall on the site that will become the city’s tallest.

The Supertall I want to see is the SkyRise! We desperately need a tall observatory just like many other major cities and that location was perfect!!

I think we “desperately” need more housing and better public transit. The vanity projects will come with more effective use of the available land.

We need both for different reasons. One does not exclude the other.

More housing is coming up on a daily basis. Better public transit will hopefully also come soon. A project like the SkyRise was unique and worth bringing back as the city does need an observation deck and an iconic building to represent Miami.

Neither of which have to do with or are appropriate for this location.

It will happen sooner or later. I even liked the design but I’d be ok even with a boring needle-like design. Let’s just revive that please

The SkyRise was beautiful to me. Many didn’t like the design and maybe it could be better designed but I’m sure it will soon happen. They’d be crazy not to ride on the huge momentum Miami is having lately

Waldorf Astoria will do that first and this will continue doing so along with possibly so many others!!

Waldorf Astoria, like Panorama Tower and Four Seasons before, are tall, but not great architecture. I’d argue Aston Martin already set the tone for altering “Miami skyline art.”

Waldorf Astoria is great architecture. It will look amazing!

I was – and AM – shocked that Aston happened (and its truly amazing on skyline!)…. but

Will become “one” of the city’s tallest. It’s not even going to be the first building to hit that milestone WA will

the majority of buildings being built today in Miami look like this one from 1958.

Even worse, they don’t follow the strict architectural rules of 1950s modernism, so you get boxes with irregular windows and blank walls.

Heh, the picture with the Ross sign looks like one of the abandoned shopping mall URBEX features.

An observation deck like the edge in the Hudson yards in newyork. Or the shard in London would be ideal. Whatever gets built there must be iconic

As good as it gets

I don’t know why this is happy news.
An empty, chain linked fence lot will sit there for years.
Maybe las gallinas y gallos are the happy ones
