Las Olas Riverfront Demolished To Make Way For 1,200-Unit Riverx

Las Olas Rivefront has been demolished, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Developer PMG is replacing it with a project called Riverx that includes 1,200 rental apartments, along with 40,000 square feet of retail.

The first phase will include 650 apartments, along with retail.

PMG is aiming to price most apartments at less than $2,000 per month, by keeping unit sizes smaller. Prices will be around $3 per square foot.

PMG is currently constructing the 650-unit Phase One of RIVERx, a two-tower 1,200-unit luxury apartment community in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Opening in early 2020, the 41-story tower will feature first class food and beverage on an expansive pool deck with signature lazy river, modern fitness facilities, a jam room and performance space, and abundant co-working space. RIVERx will embody Fort Lauderdale’s cultural emergence, where sunny leisure meets metropolitan culture.

Melo could learn a thing or two about making their rental buildings look just a little bit as PMG’s rental buildings. For all Melo lovers…rental projects don’t need to be ugly.

Apart from Melody and Bay House in relation to their more prominent locations, I don’t see how Melo’s developments are ugly. Furthermore, you can’t really judge PMG based on one building.

Apart from the completed buildings in their portfolio…lolz.

You obviously don’t know what else Melo has been building.

Hey SRS, Melo buys the site, announce the project, and starts developing and delivers it, quickly. As long as they’re developing those empty weed strewn lots we’re tired of seeing, us “Melo lovers” could care less about them trying to outdo someone’s else project in beauty.

Exactly and Melo goes to places most others wouldn’t, they create great developments away from the water.

Totally different demographics. PMG is for young professionals willing to sacrifice rental space for bigger, badder, cooler Amenties and lots of Common Spaces. Melo’s are for your working class communities, looking for affordable local residences. Both are pushing to utilize public transit.

We should be Proud to have both visionary developers in our community.

Melo is still hardly “working class” prices, but whatever real estate jargon tickles you fancy…

Apart from those sky terraces, it looks inexcusably boring to blatantly ugly. PMG can do so much better, as seen with Echo and Vice.

It’s a rental. this looks great for a rental building

Vice is nothing to be proud of. Its your standard square building. The rendering looks nothing like the actual building they are constructing.

And a parking garage taller than most buildings

The crown/spire hasn’t been constructed yet, and we can assume will be shared with 300 Biscayne.

*the garage will be shared

Typical NY’er naming a building Vice. That’s so Miami, bro. So original. Maybe the lobby will have throwback, avant garde black and white photos of Crockett and Tubbs with pastel accented white furniture from Steven G.

I’ve seen worse, like what sounds like a stereotypical name of an ethnic restaurant. At least Miami Vice evokes some class.

I always associate a “vice” with class. LOLz. BTW, here is the definition:

vice
vīs
noun
immoral or wicked behavior.
synonyms: immorality, wrongdoing, wickedness, badness, evil, iniquity, villainy, corruption, misconduct, misdeeds; More
criminal activities involving prostitution, pornography, or drugs.

It final name won’t be Vice.
