Lionel Messi Coming To Inter Miami: Lifestyle ‘Appealed To Him’

Lionel Messi said in an interview published yesterday that he will be joining Inter Miami, causing a ticket and social media frenzy.

According to the Herald, Miami’s lifestyle appeals to Messi. He is said to be a frequent visitor and owns a vacation home here.

CBS reported that Messi chose Miami over an offer from a Saudi Arabian club of 1 billion euros over two years. Jets were said to have been waiting in Paris and Barcelona to fly him into Saudi Arabia.

The Inter Miami Instagram account gained millions of followers since the announcement, and stands at 5.6 million.

Ticket prices for Inter Miami away matches have been soaring, with some seats said to be selling for several thousand dollars.

There’s also speculation that some matches could move from a temporary stadium in Fort Lauderdale to Hard Rock Stadium to meet demand.

Construction appears set to begin soon at Inter Miami’s permanent home near Miami International Airport, with permits now pending and a golf course at the site closed.

Voters across Miami calling for Joe Carollo to immediately resign. Hope to see the City of Miami have leaders who serve the people, and not the other way around.

“I’m entitled (to a personal lawyer paid by taxpayers) because of state law,” said the Commissioner. As much as we would love to give entitlements in the millions to everyone, we simply can’t afford this. This is not a conservative policy.

If mas brothers would not have hijacked this thing and turned the team into a real estate scheme, the overtown stadium would be ready for messi

You mean who are currently renting there? They get no saying until the own the place.

That’s a very sad view of things. Renters are not slaves, and owners are not slave masters. Everyone’s voice in a community matters.

Anonymous

Nobody implied they’re slaves except you.

Renters have no say in how property development materializes since they don’t own any property. They have no property values to be affected. If they don’t like the neighborhood’s direction then they can move.

But they are still stakeholders in the community….

Typical young entitlement talk from someone with no real world experiences. That community fluff talk don’t amount to jack. Want to make decisions on property impacts? Gotta own property. Duh. That’s how the real world works.

I came here to make this comment. Property owners get a say in what happens to THEIR property, not temporary occupants.

There wasn’t nearly the space to build a project on this scale that guarantees success.

I can guarantee you there would be some shady dealings with an Overtown stadium, too.

Anonymous

Stadiums are always real estate schemes because they’re so huge. Either that, or you get them built out in nowhere like Hard Rock Stadium and whatever the BB&T Center is now called.

Its not in Overtown. It will never be in Overtown. Why are so many of you still crying about this? It makes no difference now if it would have been better or not. Its done. Its over. Move on.

That stadium needs a MetroRAIL extension down to Douglas Road Station, with multiple stops between. It’s the perfect opportunity for a transit corridor and the gridiron streets make it walkable.

Anonymous

Wow, the “extend the Metromover crowd” really has a lower IQ than the speed or capacity of it.

Was pylling for overtown, but hardrock is clearly a better choice than the ft Lauderdale field…he will fill that thing. Maybe marlins stadium if scheduling permits…

“Lifestyle appeals to him”

He better hope they move the matches to Hard Rock. Imagine going from playing in legendary stadiums in Europe to a temporary toilet of a field at the end of a runway in Oakland Park, FL.

Why doesn’t Miami put more stadiums and public venues on the water so people can look out at the views? Jacksonville Jaguars are doing this… looks incredible!

Yeah!
More public venues on the waterfront!!
Miami should have a Perez Art Museum Miami, a Frost Science Museum, a Performing Arts Center, a Bayfront Amphitheatre, a Kaseya Arena, or a Children’s museum near the waterfront!!
Jacksonville has a Stadium near the waterfront afterall.

No the Jags are PROPOSING that. They’re appealing to the new Jax mayor to get taxpayers to help pay for that.

Anon

It was all tried. They first pitched Dodge Island next to the RCL offices, that got lobbied into a rejection. Then they looked at Parcel C or whatever it’s called behind the AAA, couldn’t fit a large enough project. Then there was talk of using Museum Park and that was quickly shut down as well.

Too bad they ruined the initial plans with a much bigger and nicer soccer stadium for a bland already dated look. Miami citizens foiled once again by the ineptitude of the banana republic leaders.

IDK, it looks better than the starhitect-designed Perez musuem, that looks like a Latin American dictator’s palace more than an art museum.

Wow, this is the first critique I’ve hear of the PAMM. Everyone I have been there with always comments on the beautiful architecture of the building first, and then the art second. Lol

Its interesting to think whether Beckham could’ve gotten the waterfront site done in this poltiical environment in Miami / MD County rather than the one he encountered 10+ years ago.

A location downtown would’ve been far more impactful.

Ft. Lauderdale is also claiming Messi. The headquarters are there, the practice field is there. Is a fight brewing?

Anonymous

But the real question is would anyone actually be stupid enough to believe Fort Lauderdale has any claim to Messi?

This fake town don’t deserve real sports icons. They only attend ‘events’. Waiting for something to be fashionable and ‘a thing’ before they show up. Half the time, half the arena or stadium has to explain to the other half what the F is going on. Most people here just want to be seen and say they went to something that was a hit. They have no soul or passion for teams. Being loud and making noise when it is trendy to do is NOT the same as passion. I hate it when they get rewarded so that they can come out to show off their latest fashion. Ugggh…throw up time.
