London’s Sexy Fish Is Coming To Brickell Flatiron

The rumors are true: Sexy Fish is opening at the newly completed Brickell Flatiron tower.

The Sexy Fish restaurant will span two floors with 35 foot ceiling heights, with 14,432 square feet of space, according to a construction permit filing.

The restaurant’s construction cost is estimated at $1.275 million, the permit states. That doesn’t include the cost of decoration and artwork for the space.

Sexy Fish is known for appealing to London’s ultra-wealthy, according to reviews by The Guardian and The Spectator. Decorations there include fish lamps and a crocodile by Frank Gehry, along with mermaids by Damien Hirst. There are also lavish ceiling murals and Persian onyx marble, with the total cost to build and design the restaurant said to be over $26 million.

In total, Flatiron includes 24,800 square feet of commercial space. It was sold by Ugo Colombo to an investor group for $22.5 million, or $907 per square foot, in a deal that closed last month.

SF Miami LLC filed for the construction permit with Miami’s Building Department last week to build out the restaurant.

What Miami needs–self-dubbed a World Class City—is a BRITISH PUB.
How can the 305 be international without even a British pub???

Why don’t you open one?

CocoWalk had a Chili’s before the mall was turned into a cold sad monstrosity. Maybe Mary Brickell Village could get The Cheesecake Factory or something instead of more damn tapas bar that come and go more than one changes underwear.

Bayside has a very lovely Chili’s. It is only 10 blocks from MBV, and a short Metromover ride.
Best of both worlds….public transportation AND Chili’s!!!!

PF Cheng’s should be enough to satiate the suburban crowd.

Hopefully the suburbs satiate the suburban crowd and keep the rift raft out of downtown.

There are more than enough Cheesecake factories, and yet I haven’t been to one since 1998. I would much rather have more tapas bars.

They need a real affordable local restaurant, not another gross chain that makes our country unhealthy while paying minimum wage.

Wow. Something different for Miami: An ultra expensive restaurant that most residents cant go to. Maybe last 12 months? 18 tops. Maybe another money laundering epic! Houston’s or Hillstone or even a Seasons 52 would have really been better. For all of us – not just the 1%.

well said. this is a joke

All the highest grossing restaurants in Miami are high end concepts: Zuma, Nobu, Joe’s, Hillstone, and a lot of people don’t have an issue with bills of $150/$200 PP. So it’s AN AMAZING NEWS!!! Great to get some world class restaurants in this city! For the others Wynwood is welcoming you!!!

Flatiron is a so-called 1% building. If you want Houston’s tier, it’s called Bayside.

I think this will do very well if it has a nightclub / lounge type vibe to it, similar to Komodo. If this is similar to Tao Downtown in NYC, I think it will do very well. If it is strictly a high priced restaurant, maybe not so much.

I wish Tao Group would come to Miami, though I’ve heard they have a gentleman’s agreement with Dave Grutman’s group to be hands off. Maybe that changes now that he has sold a big chunk to Live Nation?

Anonymous

Dude – Tao is considered laughable to anyone that lives there. It is for touristy types – you know, people from Miami.

This looks like a really expensive restaurant on par with Nobu. Not sure if it will work in Brickell. Many restaurants have come on gone in this area and the ones that stay seem to have more moderate prices. I guess time will tell.

Brickell is going down a notch from where it was even a few years ago. Trashy patrons and mediocre places to eat.

LOL – because someone can go there for dinner on a credit card that makes them elite? how about stupid.

True! I got that wrong. After a $350 lunch (without wine), I predicted Nasuret would be gone by Easter. 2 years later….the guy is still going strong. The steak is freaking phenomenal.

True. Marion is the bomb! I love going there on the weekend.

Really? The most expensive restaurants in the area are thriving. The Turkish butcher guy is still going. Le Petite Maison cost me $580 for a 3 person lunch, and Cipriani isn’t cheap either.
What is the most expensive place in Brickell that has failed????
I can think a several middle of the road (read: Kendall/Midtown/Aventura) restaurants that failed in Brickell, however the really expensive ones seem to fair rather well.
The only one that I can think of is that SLS (1300 S Miami Ave) seafood restaurant…are there others??

Forget trying to make sense to some of these people… they would rather stick to eating in cheap restaurants in Miami that get closed down because of filth, flies, cock roaches, and mice.

Cool venue, we know it forever already, $1,275M it’s only for the kitchen equipment! Will open probably in 2021 at the best! Ugo is the man who brought Zuma, nice to see that we stay with the same standard in this new cool building!

I don’t understand…Ugo “bought” Zuma, or does Arjun Waney own the restaurant and Ugo owns the commercial real estate.
Ugo does NOT own the commercial real estate where Sexy Fish is going.

From the UK menu online, looks expensive but highly variable depending on what you get. I’d do take out and maybe get the chicken wings for 6.2 pounds + the kimchi fried rice for 9.2 pounds. That would be around 15.4 pounds including taxes, so $20 all in. Not cheap by any means, but also not crazy given other prices in the area, IF the food is actually good, which remains to be seen.

In any case, I’d much rather see a local restaurant over another chain. Why does Miami have to import everything? I love Europe, but I would also love to see a more locavore scene that focuses on celebrating fresh ingredients from the South FL region. Over time S. FL would really benefit from nurturing local restaurants, at every price level from high end down to food trucks.
