Luxury Hyatt Hotel Coming To South Beach Across From Loews

Construction is set to begin on a new luxury Hyatt hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.

The 100-room hotel, designed by architect Kobi Karp, will replace the decrepit Tropical Gardens apartment building at 1600 Collins Avenue. Miami Beach’s Historic Preservation Board approved a plan to demolish the rear of the structure to build a 10-story tower, while preserving a portion of the front of the building.

Owners of the neighboring Berkeley Shores at 1610 Collins Avenue, have proposed a nearly identical plan, including demolishing a portion of the existing building and replacing it with a 10-story tower designed by architect ADD Inc. Those plans have been rejected by the Historic Preservation Board twice, but architects are now preparing new revisions which will be presented to the board in November.

Nothing to write home to mom about, i.e, design-wise.
