Magic Leap Founder Loves South Florida, Helps Him To Think ‘Different And Big’

Magic Leap founder Rony Abovitz loves living in South Florida, and says that being here inspires him to think ‘different and big.’

Abovitz was the founder of a robot-surgery manufacturer called MAKO Surgical in 2004, which sold for $1.65 billion in 2013.

Last year he started Magic Leap, and in October raised $542 million from Google, Qualcomm and others who were ‘blown away’ by the technology. While the company has been secretive about the product, it is said to be an augmented reality headset.

Magic Leap is based in Dania Beach, While MAKO is in Davie. Abovitz lives in Hollywood.

From Abovitz’s AMA on Reddit last week:

I was born in Cleveland, Ohio – but moved here to South Florida as a kid. I love it here: Disney, Nasa, alligators!
NASA brought the best and brightest here in the 60s to go to the moon – there is something about being here which gets you to think different and big
