Jefferey Loria isn’t interested in selling the Marlins, but if he does he would ask for $1 billion, according to Barry Jackson, citing a “wealthy businessman” interested in buying the team.
Loria parlayed an initial investment of just $12 million in the Montreal Expos into ownership of the Marlins. Forbes now values the team at $650 million, thanks to a stadium deal.
Anger towards Loria and the Marlins still hasn’t dissipated years after the stadium was built at taxpayer expense, leaving the public on the hook for $3 billion.
In the past, Micky Arison and Jeb Bush reportedly inquired about purchasing the team.
