Metromover Inner Loop To Close For Over A Year

Metromover’s Inner Loop is planned to be closed later this year, according to an announcement by Miami-Dade Transit made on social media.

The closure will last over a year, the county said.

During that time, major systems will be replaced and new cars will be tested.

Metromover is currently undergoing a $153m rebuild. Construction began in 2022.

Once work is complete, Metromover will be more reliable and frequent, with new cars added.

Why it has to take over a year? The Empire State Building was built in thirteen months.

What about LoanDepot Ballpark?? They should bulldoze it and move the Marlins to Sawgrass Mills.

clearly don’t realize how much loandepot means to the large hispanic caribbean population of little havana and west miami. nothing in sunrise but snowbirds and colombians, maybe some puerto ricans who may like baseball.

for everyone reading this just remember you get what you vote for. All those commissioners and the mayor continue to be a bunch of clowns that never get anything done. Just look at the mayor celebrating the repairs to the airport which are solely for maintenance that hasnt been performed in years. Imagine working at a company and going to the board of directors saying “look at all this work ill be doing that should have been done years prior”

Reducing the dwell time at stations from 30 seconds to 15 or 20 would help speed it up.

Anon

can we also triple the speed, frequency and number of cars lol

“Over a year…”? They could build one from downtown to Doral in a year. Sad.

Hard to believe the 2008 era rolling stock is already obsolete. It would be great though if the track power is high enough to run double cars everywhere next year. One gripe about the 2008 cars is the dark windows and too drastic aerodynamics make them smaller capacity and worse views than the original rolling stock.

2 minute headways 1 on combined lines or at worst
3 minute headways 90 seconds on doubled lines
20 second dwell time or less off peak
Tandem cars on all loops 2025

what a joke the county is. Neglect on their part but i guarantee they will blame somebody else for their incompetence

Oh no! Considering Metromover’s capacity, this will put a whopping extra ten cars on the street.

Inner loop been closed for the past couple of weeks already… At least have brickell loop/omni loop running separately at this point.

One year? Seems right. The escalator on SW 13TH ST has been/will be down for about 3 years. An escalator. THREE. YEARS.

I just hope they make full loop service permanent.

Anon

I hope you mean in addition to Brickell and Omni loops. With no inner loop some of the stations in the loop are not directly linked unless you go all the way to Financial Center or School Board and back.

Anonymous

Agree, everything runs way smoother when you combine the two. Less switching trains and confusion. It should always be full loop.

Same dinky little cars for the new rolling stock. Waste of money if it’s ever expanded.

But how will I go from my downtown condo to trader Joe’s for free??

This is sad.

I hope they optimize that Miami ave / 3rd street issue.

Getting to brickell from Downtown can take a lot longer than it needs to due to the lack of easy transfer

The entire Miami transit mgmt team needs to be fired and replaced with fresh people that want to find reasonable solutions. I moved back to Miami a few weeks ago and the spirit of minimizing my car usage I’ve tried to use the bus and metro mover. Our of 10x trying take the bus, it’s not once been even close to on time. Sometimes it doesn’t arrive with in 30 minutes of it’s scheduled time! Locals are getting burnt every day, all day, for trying to use the transit. The whole ops team is clearly incompetent and it’s only going to compound with new projects like this Metromover plan. Please Miami get a new transit mgmt team!

I hope they use this time wisely and really give this system the upgrades it needs. This elevated rail could be as good as NYC’s subway or Chicago’s L if we get real trains up there that are quicker and larger than we have now.

They’re doing this on purpose, they want to phase that out and reduce cost leaving citizens and tourists out to dry

Every day, I commute on the Mover between Brickell and Downtown, and it’s disheartening to witness the system’s gradual decline firsthand. I take the system with Omni and Brickell loops during my morning journey, the full loop is restored by my evening return, the overall condition continues to worsen. This situation calls for immediate action.
Mayor Daniella Cava has previously demonstrated her commitment to accountability by taking decisive action against the transit director. It’s imperative that she now extends this resolve to the one responsible for overseeing the Mover. We demand transparency and accountability in its management for our community’s half-penny tax investment

In London, we have the best of all worlds with transit. Granted-no system is perfect and there will be technical issues coming up from time to time. But compared to the US-especially New York City’s horror of a subway system, we have it really good. Glad to be a proud Londoner and Brit. We truly are blessed. I feel sorry for the US with their politics as well, especially if that criminal Trump gets in and destroys their democracy.

The County has since walked this back and says “at this time there is NO long term inner loop closure planned.” I guess it depends whether you trust county Instagram or Twitter.

The NYC subway has held back american transit for 2 generations. Everytime a city considers public transit expansion people just look at NYC people getting pushed onto tracks, homeless missing in the subways cars, the harassment.
