MIA Ranks In Top 10 Airports Worldwide For Cargo, Aircraft Movements

Miami International Airport was among the busiest in the world for both passenger and cargo traffic last year, according to a new report by Airports Council International.

A total of 50,684,396 passengers used MIA in 2022 (a 36% increase from 2021). That ranked 14th highest in the world, and 8th highest in the U.S.

Around 42% of MIA’s traffic last year was international, while other airports higher on the list are dominated by domestic traffic.

MIA ranked 8th in the world and 4th in the U.S. for cargo traffic (by metric tonnes).

Aircraft movements at MIA increased 18% in 2022, ranking it 8th highest in both the U.S. and the world, the report said.

I don’t think for cargo they care.

Yet, a 3W country has a more cutting edge airport than any redevelopment by Arquitectonica, Kobi Krap, or Zyscovich.

I flew in to Terminal D last night, and will fly out (probably from Terminal D) tomorrow.
My perspective is significantly different.

MIA is NOT a third world country airport.

(You can tell by actually using it, or by reading the article above.)

Go check out the central terminal

Concourse D is part of the central terminal. I agree with Sven. While Miami is not the most modern airport, it’s far from a “third world country” airport. I have seen MUCH worse.

For the last 20 years, I’d argue that MIA was even better than LGA.
LGA is now incredible.

Miami is no where close to third world.

Anyone defending the airport, is probably comparing it an actual third world country. The airport is “third world” in US standards and does not match the prominence of Miami in Americas economy. It needs to be extended/redesigned and upgraded, and the federal government should help.

Time to upgrade the airport itself.
It looks tired.

90 % of that facility needs to be completely modernized ..this time without leaking roofs and non working facilities..and.decent cafes and gate areas would be nice too..

They have been improving and expanding, and upgrading for a while. It is happening in a structured way.

Terminals J and D are as good as most any in America.

If you are wondering “what happened to all the upgrades”, take a moment to read this

Or, do your own Googling to review the 15 year Master Plan.

I always hear the same comment in respect to Miami International Airport, 3 world country. I travel a lot domestically and internationally, there are a lot airports which I am not going to name here in the US in big cities worse than Miami and not to mention in airports in outside the US.

Have you guys seen ¨3d world¨airports? They are very nice, new and modern. check BOG for example.
I think you need a better reference, such as ¨regional airports¨
