Miami Beach voters may get the chance to decide in November on an 800-room convention center hotel, after commissioners voted in favor of it last week in a first reading.
Portman Holdings is proposing to build the hotel, while also paying a portion of revenue, including a minimum guarantee of rent.
At least 60% of Miami Beach voters must approve the deal.
John Portman, who founded the company that will develop the project, is the architect. An earlier hotel at the site was designed by Rem Koolhaas, but was killed by city commissioners.
