Miami-Dade Commissioners were scheduled to vote today on eliminating a parking requirement for new developments in the Government Center Subzone of the Rapid Transit Zone.
All properties within the Government Center Subzone are County-owned or County-developed properties.
The area is served by Metrorail, Metromover, Tri-Rail, Brightline, and Bus Rapid Transit.
Eliminating a requirement to build costly parking will incentivize the development of transit-oriented affordable and workforce housing within the area, according to a memo from the County Mayor.
The proposal had already unanimously passed a first reading in November.
Three development proposals have been submitted for county properties in the zone known as Metrocenter. They include a proposal designed by starchitect Foster + Partners, and another promising up to 5,000 residential units, including 2,000 affordable and workforce units.
