It was one of the best months of May for domestic passenger travel in the history of Miami International Airport this year – despite coronavirus.
Overall, a combined 2,247,949 domestic passengers were recorded at the airport in May 2021, which was close to a record for the month.
The domestic passenger numbers for May 2021 were higher than any May in the past five years.
Only May 2016 saw a higher domestic passenger count at the airport. May 2021 came within 1% of breaking that all-time high.
MIA’s domestic passenger count looks sure to rise over the coming months, as airlines such as Spirit have announced significant service increases.
The combined domestic and international passenger count at MIA in May 2021 reached 3,338,296, or about 80% of the passenger count seen in May 2019.
