More than 160,000 passengers traveled through Miami International Airport on Saturday, December 22, making it the busiest day ever in the history of the airport.
The airport also says it had its highest ever traffic during 2018, with passenger count on track to surpass 45 million annual passengers for the first time ever. Through November, passenger count was 818,000 higher than last year.
During the 17-day holiday travel period, passenger count was up 117,000 from last year to 2.48 million passengers.
The performance exceeded expectations, according to airport director Lester Sola, who also noted several new route launches.
MIA fell behind Orlando International Airport however, which announced 47 million passengers over a 12-month period ending in November.
