Miami Is Growing: New Telephone Area Code 645 Added On Top Of 305 & 786 To Meet Demand

The North American Numbering Plan Administrator has assigned Miami with a new area code to help satisfy the high level of demand in the fast-growing area.

Miami’s new area code is 645, the administrator announced. From now on, new telephone lines in Miami and the Keys will be assigned with either a 305, 786, or 645 number.

“As Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys continue to attract new residents from all across our country and around the world, the new 645 area code will ensure that the demand for new lines is met,” said Florida Public Service Commission Chairman Andrew Giles Fay.

“The increasing customer demand is a testament to South Florida’s growing economy,” Fay added.

Miami was on track to run out of 305 and 786 numbers by the first quarter of 2024, according to a petition on behalf of Florida’s telecommunications industry.

Miami last got a new area code in 1998, when 786 was added.

I think we need to get 212 considering that all New Yorkers have been moving here

They have been moving and living in MiamiDade before you were born.

Too bad 321 is taken by Brevard. It could be catchy for pitbull the music artist to use.

They have 321 because it’s the Space Coast. 3-2-1-blastoff!

NYC has 19 area codes. 212 is the original, but 646 is one of them and by already having so many New Yorkers, makes sense to use 645.

There’s a sign on I-95 around Jacksonville that reads: Miami 305 miles. I thought someone had fun with that one.

Why does the Keys (Monroe County) just get their own area code?

Ralph

Only 83,000 residents in that entire county… There’s more people in my Miami neighborhood alone than all of Monroe County…

it feels like miami is growing faster than the numbers indicate, they said miami was going to gain just a few thousand residents on 2021 but traffic keeps getting worst, i don’r know if people are miscounted or too many illegal aliens moving here
