Now Open For Bidding: School Board Land Across From Arsht Center

The Miami-Dade School Board has issued a request for proposals for property at 1370 Northeast Second Avenue, across from the Arsht Center.

Developers are being asked to provide fair market value in cash. Alternatively, developers could build a new office building and parking garage for the school board, according to design criteria prepared by the board (see below.)

The property is currently a surface parking lot. An entity controlled by Russel Galbut controls the adjacent 49,610 square foot lot, and Galbut is said to have negotiated with the board for the land.

Miami needs more office buildings im not sure why every city in the world has office buildings except Miami. I love office building you can pretty much design it how you want unlike a condo you rally have to maximize the space

Every time I see this area of Miami I cant understand how this much land is just an open field with nothing on it. This is prime real estate thats just sitting there I dont get it. Use the land to build something special that people can go to an enjoy thats not another condo.

I agree. Site is only 2-3 blocks away from Miami WorldCenter and the new Signature bridge…as well as old Miami Herald site.

Fantastic to see the Omni area being re-developed..long overdue. The location is unbelievable with highways + public transportation. Basically a blank canvas.

“Developers are being ask to provide fair market value in cash”

Is it me or a government agency asking cash for a transaction sounds fishy? Or let me say it more politically correct….
Where is the accountability in a cash transaction when is made by a government agency?
Some of those agencies have bad reputation , not necessarily this one…..

Yeah, if the were instructed to deliver the cash to be delivered in a brown paper bag

Lol the money must be delivered in a brinks truck, lmao. Only in Miami. My question is why does the school board do this towards the end of every boom, instead of at the beginning?

At first sight of the render, I immediately thought “what a beauty” and “please build!” After scrolling down and seeing the exposed parking garage with its Swiss cheese holes, I’m reconsidering. The sad thing is, anything else might not look better.
