Okan Tower Update: No Recent Activity At Proposed 70-Story, 902-Foot Tulip-Shaped Tower

There doesn’t appear to be any new activity recently at the Okan Tower project.

Okan’s tower is proposed to rise 70 stories and 902 feet, with residential condo units, a Hilton hotel, and office space.

The developer launched sales in 2018, applied for approvals, and hired a contractor. They also announced that they would begin construction on the tower regardless of sales.

In September 2019, the developer applied for a construction permit and began working through the approval process for several months. There has been no activity on it since December 2019.

Two 53-story towers by Melo Group broke ground directly next to the Okan site in December 2019 and have now topped off, potentially blocking off some view corridors from the Okan tower.

Okan’s sales effort may have been slightly mistimed, as Miami’s real estate market is now as hot as its ever been, with a surge in sales this year. It isn’t clear if Okan is still actively marketing units.

The building that Okan had leased as a sales gallery was listed for sale, but that listing was removed last week.

yeah that’s what i thought – scratching my head.

these guys arent going to go through with this development. Melo’s building next door crushed the views for half the building.

Anonymous

Or did Melo’s building adequately block the view of the jail?!

Federal Prison

To everyone that says this is ‘too close to melo’ they need to look at Waldorf Astoria and that low-rise motel built next-door. That motel will be redeveloped and will have the same setbacks as Melo and Okan.

Anonymous

Waldorf is on biscayne Blvd. its a prime location compared to where Okan is

Anonymous

Also Waldorf is going first and as long as they sell their units before anything is built next to it it doesn’t matter. Okan would have a tough time selling units on the Melos side at the price they’d want

Anonymous

True but it’s yet to be seen if they tear build on that property right next to the Waldorf Astoria. The melo towers are already up and I think okan may try to sell this property and buy elsewhere but who knows. Hopefully this gets built

I prefer to have a direct federal prison view for my money…

Only a gay man would want that.

Or someone who actually doesn’t and is being facetious.

You really don’t know any gay men, do you?

^ Well now that I know you’re one, I really don’t care to know anymore.

Their building is just as ugly anyway, if not worse.

Anonymous

If you don’t show them your idea of what a beautiful apartment building looks like, what do you expect them to design and build?

Anonymous

To avoid being humiliated by The Melo Group, Okan should have purchased the entire block.

And Melo building downtown 6th on the same side as Okan next to the church

Good…

Anonymous

Just sell the site to the Melos and look for a better parcel to build on..

Anonymous

Exactly… just sell the land to OKAN where the convention center and hotel is supposed to go and design another plan for the convention center and hotel somewhere else downtown or somewhere near downtown. Jeez people, this foot dragging sh!t is agonizing.

“we were promised?”

They should pull a Nativo and dump a piling machine on the site and announce through a press release that sales are “RECORD BREAKING NEVER SEEN BEFORE IN MIAMI!”

Hire a water saxophone at Bayside and everyone on this page will have their faith restored.

The minute I saw how beautiful and creatively designed the tower was, I knew it wasn’t happening here in Miami. It’s such a shame. This would have definitely been iconic.

This is going to become another capital brickell and stay vacant for decades while Melo, PGM and world center add more buildings to the area.

Anonymous

Agreed. At least it’s not in as prominent as a site as Capital brickell

So the update is no update? Thanks for looking into it though. I really hope this happens but my hopes are slim.

Next, it would be nice to have an update on the SkyRise! Thanks!

Anonymous

Once and for all I hope you finally get the message that that ugly designed Skyrise contraption is dead, dead, dead… so stop asking about it.

Anonymous

SkyRise isn’t dead let alone dead dead dead. Also it’s not ugly but it’s a beautiful design. So once and for all take a chill pill and let the adults do business.

Anonymous

Son, that Skyrise idea is probably as old as you are. Not only do you have poor taste in designs, you’re gullible as well. Berkowitz, take that poorly designed Skyrise crap to Disney Land along with this numbskull.. okay?

Since Okan is Turkish company, I assume the company got hit hard financially from the pandemic since the break out occurred in Europe and the Middle East

So the recent surge in Miami’s real estate market this year doesn’t apply to them?

MELO killed it.

Anonymous

MELO didn’t kill anything. Did the Melo Group make Okan buy the land?

Shawn Kouri

Actually, the tower is not listed on Miami condo lifestyles website under Miami preconstruction Condos anymore but it is still listed on the website from Miami condo investments. Somebody has to contact them and ask them what is going on with that tower because here we are in 2021 and everything just came to a complete stop during the pandemic.

POLO

Melo killed Okan by building two ugly towers and blocking Okan’s views to the south up to 500 feet.

Anonymous

First Come. First Serve.

Anonymous

And then Melo comes in and buys the lot at a reasonable price.

POLO

And build two more ugly towers!

Anonymous

I guess POLO would rather we keep waiting for something to get built to his liking like we’ve been doing on that Convention Center and Hotel site downtown?

Anonymous

The crap location around the corner from the prison killed it.

Anonymous

what were they expecting? that those lots were going stay empty forever and no one would block their views? I don’t think that building okan tower depended on someone building anything on those empty lots

Anonymous

There’s acres of vacant and redevelopment land still available in and near downtown if Okan is really serious about building that tower.
