Permit Submitted For Temporary Fence At 1836 Biscayne Where 40-Story Tower Planned

A permit has been applied for at 1836 Biscayne in Edgewater for the installation of a temporary fence.

The property is home to the historic Christian Scientist Church building.

Developers applied in September for a construction permit with Miami’s Building Department in September for a 40-story apartment tower above the former church.

The building will rise 40 stories, or 450 feet, and include 390 living units, according to the construction permit filing.

Active review of the tower construction permit is continuing this month, with a decision by a Building Department reviewers as recent as this morning.

no more vertical suburbs on flood land! Edgwater density causes more issues than value.

Development in this city is absolutely glacial. It blows my mind. We’ve seen entire cities built in just the past two decades.

it’s a suburb without the benefit of space, no where to walk or train and always flooded. You need a boat if you move here

Not true at all. People walk all over Edgewater and it’s becoming more walkable by the day. I’ve lived here for a few years and can count on 1 hand the number of times we’ve had flooding. And none of those times prevented anyone from driving/walking around the neighborhood.

Fence?
Another decade is looming

This parcel is in desperate need of development, so I’m glad that at least a fence is coming. It’ll keep the skateboarders and the homeless off the church steps.

Much needed inventory to get this supply demand imbalance and prices in check at least somewhat

Developers are not dumb. As soon as they see demand tanking, they’ll pull the cord on all projects to keep rents high. Capitalism 101

I’m more interested in what they will do with the church than the tower itself tbh

I wish they would turn it into a big gay disco, like the beautiful former church building in NYC.
