Photo: 571-Foot Society Biscayne Tower Making An Impact On Miami’s Skyline

Society Biscayne, the under-construction tower which sits directly on Biscayne Boulevard, is making a clear impact on Miami’s skyline.

At 49 stories and 571 feet, it is the seventh tallest building currently under construction in city of Miami limits.

According to its Notice of Commencement, Society will include:

  • 646 residential units
  • 48,240 square feet of office
  • 3,006 square feet of retail/food and beverage
  • A 10-story, 22,177 square foot church with 329 seats
  • 406 parking spaces

PMG and Greybrook are the developers.

Better than a hideous parking lot.

Anonymous

It’s actually pretty cool though I think Miami needs to focus on reducing cars and increasing public transportation.

Some warped panels and a blank wall for a hideous mural. “Cool” would be something more appropriate to the human scale. Check out the Zyscovich Biscayne Boulevard masterplan.

Both mii and ft laud need tondo that

whats your suggestion to fix the parking podium issue? People are going to own cars even if public transit is available since they may want to go to other parts of Florida and would need a car. When you develop your own building you can do what you please with the parking

Wouldn’t they still have to deal with parking minimums?

Zero parking requirement for multi family in downtown.

Will take ages to change the suburban mentality of miami people. They still leave in gates communities.

Anonymous

“They still leave in gates communities?”

You mean, everybody that lives in Miami live in a “gated community?” Damn, that means the pay there is much more than a lot of people think and say it is.

Far from developer’s choice. Miami Code (Miami 21) requires highest parking standards in the country at 1.5 spots per unit. City Manager was former head of Parking Authority and is obsessed with parking.

Raul

Are you serious? Didn’t know that about Miami 21… It looks like a very good code in other areas. That high of a parking requirement is counter-productive for Miami though.

this is a really small amount of parking for that many units and that much commercial square feet

It reminds me of Panorama Tower on Brickell. Maybe one of the ugliest building built in Miami in the last 20 years. Wait until they start putting all the color Xmas lights on the balconies.

This looks pretty cool actually

I can think of a couple uglier buildings downtown, specifically MyBrickell and Centro. Yes, Panorama Tower is unimpressive as the city’s tallest, but is a solid building.

Awful just awful looking. Developer called their architect and said give me something bland AND boring I’m putting it right in the one of the best sightlines in the city. No one ounce of design going into the rooftop. Reminds me of a Days Inn.

A large church was there before this building began construction. In exchange for the land, the church allowed the developers to utilize this prime spot on Biscayne Blvd. more efficiently and thus opened it up for more people to enjoy. More people get to live in an incredible spot and the Church gets an upgraded space where they can continue their mission. In my opinion it’s a win-win.

Their mission of making money tax free. Right🙄

Anonymous

Like labor unions.

Anonymous

Are you sure Labor Unions don’t pay taxes?

Anonymous

Actual the mission is to set you free from the love of money. Do you really think the church runs itself? They have a staff of people that work there they have to pay most churches employ 10-30 people and shocker they actually get paid in us currency , or would you like them to work for free. Just because certain pastors/priest are fake doesn’t mean all churches are about money! They will all have to answer to God one day, As will you and I. I’m sorry that someone that was evil hurt you that was part of the church. But you know that God has never abandon you! Think back to when you were much younger there was incident that occurred that God saved you from. I don’t even know you and I know God is using me right now to tell you that He loves you! God luck my friend just know that God cares for you!

^ Luke 14:26 in the King James Bible, Jesus said – “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”

Wow.. that really narrows down something to love.

I understand the way it may seem by just reeding that text.
If we take a closer look at the surrounding context, the nutshell meaning of his distressing words is as clear and concise as it is radical and revolutionary. Jesus is telling his followers: “If you would be a Christian, I must have it all.” We may be scandalized by the “hate” speech, but I suspect in stumbling over Jesus’s plain talk, we can miss the real point of this text: There will be rivals warring for supremacy over the throne of our hearts, but our love for King Jesus must defeat every one.

Churches don’t need fancy and expensive spaces. They should be in cheap run down places so that all the money could go to the poor. Churches are scams.

^ Yeah.. God knows the absolute worst thing every human being on this earth has done or will do and he/she still destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and killed every human being along with the animals on this earth (except Noah and his family) with a flood. And according to the King James Bible, God is going to destroy this world and most of the people on it again!

And yet, “God loves you more than anyone else ever will?”

All rigthie then!…

The problem back then was sin and today it is sin as well. Do you think God is happy with the amount of human trafficking that goes on everyday do you believe it makes God’s heart smile to see people mistreated and enslaved. Do you think God is pleased when families are destroyed through Addiction?

If God is love and we are made in His image to love and we as humans choose not love because we are selfish we are abrasive ,dishonest, we’re manipulative and liars.

But yet God still looks beyond every flaw. He says if we come to Him, He will forgive us this not going a priest or some man this literally crying out to God and saying I don’t have it all figured out I need help. News flash we all need help in some area of our live don’t you think the one that created you knows what you need? God is love and God won’t force you to follow Him or love Him. Why because you can’t force someone to love you. Love is a choice. I pray that God gives you peace with whatever it is you’re battling.
Shalom

“Do you think God is happy with the amount of human trafficking that goes on everyday do you believe it makes God’s heart smile to see people mistreated and enslaved?”

You tell me:

Leviticus 25:44: As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you.

So, it always baffles me when they say it’s the 7th tallest building under construction. So this means there are 6 other buildings under construction that are taller? Or does this mean that once completed this will be the 7th tallest building in Miami?

The Red Link

There is a link in that exact section of the article. It would be the 7th tallest under construction. So yes there are 6 others that are taller and under construction as well.

I understand the need for parking for these buildings, so I get why there’s a parking podium. However, can we please attempt to design street level/ground level retail, and have the parking start a floor higher? We will never have a successful a pedestrian-friendly downtown, if every block is void of things to attract people. We’re just creating dead zones. The old Miracle Center comes to mind: a very high ramp to where the parking garage started.

I see people criticizing this building’s design. I actually think it’s much better than your average new Miami buildings with a schizophrenic balconies-misaligned-all-over-the-place design for the sake of “creativity.”

Those give me a headache.
