Photos: CitizenM Miami Worldcenter’s Exterior Lighting Scheme

At Miami Worldcenter, a 351-room CitizenM hotel has been lighting up on a nightly basis as it gets closer to completion.

The CitizenM Miami World Center hotel is a 15 minute walk to FTX Arena, according to the CitizenM website. Another area of the website lists the walk time to the arena and Biscayne Bay as 8 minutes.

“Miami Central Station” (presumably the Brightline, Metrorail and Metromover hub) is listed as a 9 minute walk.

Reservations for hotel stays are not yet being accepted. The Brickell CitizenM hotel is already accepting reservations.

Lmao at the walking distance. It’s literally in front of the FTX Arena. 1 minute or 8 minute really depends on the traffic light to cross Biscayne Blvd, which takes forever to turn because it’s really not pedestrian friendly.

Anonymous

Not only it takes forever to turn green to pedestrians, when it actually does turn green it gives you 10 seconds to cross so basically either you run or you have to wait another 10 minutes to cross the other half of the boulevard.

Anonymous

Biscayne Green will change that soon. There will be one less lane and Biscayne will be more pedestrian friendly. It’s inevitable as more people move to the area. Every new building brings almost 1,000 new people.

Let’s hope it happens and doesn’t fall victim to car-lobbied commissioners

“car-lobbied?”

I can name a few “ghost towns” in this country I think you might be interested in moving to.

Anonymous

You mean, they’re going to solve traffic problems by taking away one of the lanes?

Gee there are smart people running Miami.

Anonymous

It’s not gonna happen. The new urban residents are gonna have to adjust to actually living in a real urban area. That means lots of traffic, noise, special events, etc. If they don’t like it, hey, let ’em take their $900K and buy a house in Palmetto Bay.

Anonymous

Real urban areas are geared toward people and not cars. Look at NYC

Anonymous

NYC had a subway system since around the 1890’s. Miami was barely just a little hick town back then.

Stop comparing Miami to cities that are way bigger and much older.

Cars are for the third world. America needs to upgrade to rail-first infrastructure. That’s why NYC and Chicago are lightyears ahead of the country in development. because you don’t need a car to live there.

Anonymous

As a former miami resident that now lives in Chicago I can attest to this. It’s truly amazing how good public transportation changes a city for the better

NYC and Chicago rail infrastructure was also built by the private sector over 100 years ago, and under government authority is falling apart or takes ten years to change a lightbulb.

NYC and Chicago were big cities even back in the horse and buggy days before cars were invented. Now, those same cities are clogged with car and other vehicle traffic.

Geezz, I wonder if some people on this site do even a little reading?

Anonymous

No. They are going to resolve pedestrian problems by taking away one lane.

Anonymous

How about changing the timing on traffic lights first and see if that solves the problem?

Not Anonymous

Yes. Since there will be less lanes, the attractiveness of the route will decrease, leading to less drivers.

Anonymous

It won’t lead to less driving.. bet you will start hearing other people complain about the amount of traffic they’ve inherited on their streets because of it.

Metroloser and Metrofail

they should eliminate the sidewalk and add another traffic lane

Rem

Sounds like the same folks that run Fort Lauderdale – they’ve been continually removing lanes all around town and then wonder why there are miles long backups in various areas.

Yeah.. they build the traffic lanes for vehicles and then take away traffic lanes because of them.

Those days are numbered. Better get used to it.

Anonymous

Yep. And they better adjust the time to and give people at least two or three more hours to get to work after they eliminate all these traffic lanes and reduce the ability to park everywhere. And also give the cops, fire department, ambulances, Uber/Lyft, and pizza drivers more time to get to you.

lol…

The only time you would need to walk to FTX is for a game or concert. If you’d been to any recently, you’d know that police block vehicular traffic and allow pedestrians to cross very timely. I’ve never had to wait to cross Biscayne over 2 minutes during games.

They NEED to make numerous pedestrian overpasses, and also force people off cars. Miami will NEVER be a world class city if it stays a car-centric city. Miami NEEDS to expand their rail too; LONG OVERDUE. SMH

Pedestrians should be forbidden from crossing Biscayne Blvd. Double deck Biscayne Blvd to allow for increased car traffic volumes.

Anonbttm

I like your spirit but pedestrian overpasses only exist so as to shift as much of the burden of traffic management onto pedestrians (so cars can move as fast as possible without stopping; think US-1), so please god, no overpasses on Biscayne. Just improve the crosswalks and let the drivers suck it up and take the highway if they want to drive at a consistent 65 mph.

Metroloser and Metrofail

If you can’t walk over a pedestrian overpass then stay home and watch TV. Streets are for cars PERIOD.

Joe CARollo

You don’t build fillers in the core

Anonymous

You actually do because not every building can be the same height, you need to create some visual movement with different heights. With that said, we need more super-talls there.

Anonymous

You also need to create architectural variety that isn’t boxes of various heights and balcony placement.

Eventually, there will be a giant tower east of it in that empty lot.

M m

There never will be. There are limitations on that lot to preserve the historic view corridor of the freedom tower. You can’t build taller than a few stories. It’s really difficult to come up with a concept that is more profitable for the owner when they are making a killing on that property via charging for parking. My solution is to make it a park to preserve the view corridor and maximize parking with a two story underground garage.

They haven’t even opened the 21-story Brickell one after more than 2 years. It’s disappointing they didn’t coordinate with Mary Brickell Village the continuation of the sidewalk design and just put cement, not to mention the eyesore billboards they put on the facade. So, don’t worry if the SoBe project cancels, you are not missing anything good.

Melo is sigma and chad

Most buildings in those cities dont have a lighting scheme. Yall complain about melo buildings but most hong kong high rises are blocks without balconies and hundreds of AC’s sitting out. Miami is Miami

Miami

Completely agree. Hong Kong must be one of the ugliest skylines. It has several iconic buildings but the majority look like vertical slums. Chicago on the contrary is a work of art. Many iconic buildings in all possible styles. Remember that city was the birthplace of the skyscraper and never stopped building so the variety of styles is unmatched in the world. With the exception of new York. I’m happy with the development of Miami. Considering it was a small town until not that long ago. Go Mia go!!!

@Adrian Diaz Chicago is the bar for urban development. Yea, Hong Kong is the densest city in the world and has by far the most skyscrapers, but it is undeniably a mess. Chicago has capacity and still looks good; and Chicago invented lights on buildings and has alot of em, so I don’t understand your comment.

The walk to FTX is much shorter than 15 minutes! Anyone who takes the mover to Heat games and gets off at Park West Station knows. Great location, looking forward to having this area come more alive.

I hope they do something with that surface parking lot. There should be a better entrance /gateway to WorldCenter.

Anonymous

That parking lot should be turned into a low rise museum

Anonymous

Turn the underutilized former printing facility in the back into a museum and turn the actual tower into a boutique hotel. The parking lot deserves a condo tower by RAMSA. Too bad under MDC ownership, with or without State funds, they will continue to let it fall apart.
