Photos: Construction Continues At 40-Story Downtown Miami Tower

Construction is continuing at downtown Miami’s 501 First tower, new photos by Phillip Pessar show.

The 40-story tower is unusual in that it is being built without a parking garage.

It will include 448 residential condos allowing short-term rental, along with 3,198 square feet of retail.

Groundbreaking for the tower took place in December 2022. The foundation was poured in July.

There is literally nothing wrong that I can find with this tower.

1) great street presense
2) not a rectangular shape (cereal box)
3) tall glassy lobby with plenty of retail space
4) balconies are partially recessed so it doesn’t mess with the shape of the building

It really is stunning – and pretty much all glass….

100% This should be the gold standard of infill in Miami, not one-third parking garage, two-thirds cereal box with jagged balconies.

Shame about the facade of the old 1920s building not being incorporated, but I’ll take it over pathetic attempts to incorporate historic facades into terrible looking building in this city (i.e., Wynwood Bay).

Hopefully they don’t pull a bait and switch like so many other developers. From what I’ve seen the renderings are always better, and sometimes dramatically different, than the actual building.
