I wonder how Overtown will change and what the vibe will be in the future. Its location is one of the best in Miami and many investors are finally seeing that. I hope it will become a really nice neighborhood.

With some nice brick design exteriors it can look historical yet modern and bring the area a whole new look. For a city that just keeps adding white and gray buildings with pedestal garages it seems like the vibe won’t be any different at this rate

The exteriors will be stucco

Along with Downtown 5th and the new courthouse, this project has one of the worst exteriors currently under construction or recently completed. Alas, it’s affordable for seniors and

Overtown could become like Harlem, in NYC. I was recently there and it was beautiful and lively, it had Whole Food, a ton of bars and restaurants and it was packed with tourists. Already some Harlem establishments have opened in Overtown, like Red Rooster so it’s just a matter of time.

Harlem also has Columbia University so I wouldn’t keep your heart set on it.

Overtown is close enough to MDC😅

Anon

You’re comparing MDC (and it’s rundown, underfunded campus) to Columbia University? Alrighty then.

Anon

Downvote me all you want but comparing MDC to freaking Columbia is ridiculous and you all know it

Although Columbia is an Ivy League school that have lost a lot of credibility, MDC is also still a bloody community college.

Where did that come from?
Miami Dade isn’t “underfunded”, “rundown” they are opening new buildings, schools, and programs at a staggering pace.
The new labs on the Wolfson Campus are incredible….specifically, the Artificial Intelligence labs, the Cybersecurity Lab, Trading, Social Media, MDC is a real community treasure.

Founded in 1959 and with over 100,000 it is not comparable to Columbia (which is why Anon added the smiley face), but it should be respected and understood.

I respect it a lot I just wish they had the funding to take care of some of the amazing historic buildings they have purchased and the funding to upgrade their campus – compared to other urban campuses in the country it’s really run down

Columbia is in Morningside Heights, not Harlem.

Columbia University expands up to 135th Street in Harlem. They spent $10 Billions for the expansion and it’s amazing!

Columbia is in Mornigside Heights (which was historically part of Harlem) and it’s also in Manhattanville, which is in Harlem. To be precise, it expands from 116th Street to 135th Street in Harlem and it also has a huge Medical Campus on 168th in Washington Heights so soon there will be another expansion that will connect 135th and 168th Street.

Columbia University is in Morningside Heights.

Also, Morningside Heights has always been part of of Harlem Even though some see it as separate.

Columbia University is deep in Harlem from 116tg Street to 135th Street. Educate yourself.

Not exactly. It is in Harlem. Look it up.

Columbia is in Harlem, I live right next to it on 133rd Street so i should know…

Columbia is overrated, as are all Ivy League schools. You have a good name or story and you get in with minimally better grades, and the same teacher teach there as other less known and less expensive universities.

Anon

Ivy League schools are elitest and detriment to society. Why are there none in Florida? Control. Gaslighting, the minds of our smartest individuals who can’t afford to go these school or who don’t have family nearby.

I would rather hire someone from a third tier school who performs well and has charisma than an Ivy League grad that rode on coattails.

They just need to continue the gentrification and buy out or price out some of the long time residents who have held the area back for decades. I give it just a few more years before big things are realized there

stop assuming

Educate yourself and bone up on some history of how Overtown started. When you get to the chapter and read how the people there were pigeon holed by others in power in the past and they had no choice but to stay there, then come back to this site and tell us what you learned about the place.

Does anyone know how to apply for this units?

You have to be a senior and probably have low income and no savings or assets

We need another Target in the Flagler Street portion of the old Burdine’s, not another Ross.

Police substation when the headquarters is a block away?

How?

How would you know? Do you live there?

Anonymous

Yes because every senior wants to move to a midrise building and deal with city traffic. Most seniors are trying to sell and move to a 1 story home.

Anonymous

No one is forcing them to live there.

These developers understand their market, and know that it will be easy to fill 500+ units with seniors.
