Photos: Giant Crane Arrives At Okan Tower Site

A large crane arrived at the site of Okan Tower last week.

Okan Tower is set to break the 900-foot barrier, and is the tallest to ever break ground in Miami.

This is so exciting! Miami raising to new heights one building at a time!

I always like watching tightly packed in projects like this where one building is nearly twice as tall as the other. By the time this is over we’ll really get to see the difference between 500ft and 900ft. The difference between “just another skyscraper” and an iconic, truly skyline-altering one.

I have to agree. Lately, I have been wondering if land downtown just too cheap? To the average person it might not seems so, but when I see many of these newly announced projects seem to have massive parking podiums, and even some with ground floor gardens, it makes me wonder. A serious in demand city wouldn’t waste so much space. So, yeah, I love that this one, from what I can tell, nearly directly abuts the adjacent buildings to the South, barely wasting a single square inch! That’s when we know we are reaching true density and high demand. I am truly excited for this project to rise! I wish I could afford to buy something high up in this one, but I will just have to admire it from the ground.

Those are all decided by zoning. It’s called lot coverage. A certain percentage of the lot must be covered.

If memory serves this whole blocks used to be marketed with fantastical renderings of triplet supertall towers. But it never was fully assembled by one party so Melo and Okan developed separately.

Awesome. Can’t wait to see this one going up. This block is going to be insane when the Melo group breaks ground on Downtown 6th and Related breaks ground on The Crosby. Traffic is going to be nuts

I hope Downtown 6th will have a nice design

By simple if you mean Downtown 1st, I agree. But if you mean Melody, I’d rather see some curves and no irregular windows and balconies pleaseeeee.

Okan, Legacy, St. Regis, Major, Cipriani, Baccarat and Aston Martin, one more beautiful than the other, will leave the legacy of a beautiful Miami skyline. The city still lacks a beautiful lookout tower.

What is this area called? I know it’s downtown but is it Worldcenter, Park West, Overtown or something else?

Downtown

Yeah but downtown is a huge area… what is this specific area called?

Central Business District, or CBD, is most accurate.

Thank you so much for the info!

I think CBD is a bit more south. Since MWC is literally across the street I’d probably consider this Worldcenter area.

Over built, toxic , and unnatural. Plant trees and preserve open green spaces. Cities suck!!
