Wynwood Closed Streets To Car Traffic During Art Week 2019, The Busiest Ever For The Neighborhood. Here’s What It looked Like

2019 was the busiest that Wynwood has ever been, and police closed streets to car traffic over the weekend.

Only trolleys were allowed to pass on Wynwood’s, crowded, closed-off main street, Northwest 2nd Avenue:

#CarFree Wynwood is awesome. Kill the I-95 Interchange and instead fund metromover to Wynwood.

TriRail stop in Wynwood!! An easy stop that could be ready next year. Metro mover is good to but would take 5+ years.

Read Biscayne Times.

MetroMover is much quieter than TriRail because TriRail trains have steel wheels that run on steel tracks, therefore the MetroMover is better for the area. If they get on extending the MetroMover right now, it should only take about two years to complete a new loop extension.

Anonymous

It should, but it won’t. Also, Metromover requires a giant overpass, killing any possibility of complete streets where it runs along, doesn’t have capacity for significant expansion without significant upgrading, and can’t sustain itself without the introduction of fares.

Anonymous

A triRail stop would be a great start but its still not as convenient as just hopping on the metro mover and going all throughout downtown. Plus who knows how frequent the triRail would come which is really important for an effective system

Honestly, how is that even a proposal. Its amazing how fast billions of dollars can be thrown at an interstate but even millions for a train, HELL NO.

Metromover to Wynwood, please!!!!! This neighborhood is growing too fast for cars to be sustaiable.

Anonymous

I think all of downtown should be given the same priority. Especially the CBD

Up North Miami to design district then back down Biscayne would be a perfect loop

Anonymous

If the metromover went up North Miami Avenue from the school board station it would greatly connect wynwood to the rest of the urban core.

Anonymous

Or NW 2nd Ave

Anonymous

North Miami Ave is wider and already has an turning lane that could be used for the pillars.

Anonymous

Could end right at Midtown… Miami Ave & 36th street maybe even go into Design district. Just extend Omni Loop. Isn’t crazy this isn’t already in progress considering I never heard of the “Signature Bridge” until it was approved.

It’s obvious that cars are not necessary when there is interest.
I say the same thing over and over, build and they will come regardless.
So there is proof that parking should not be a priority. Mass transit should be the priority

Yes extend the Metro Mover up N Miami at least to 29th, only 14 blocks from the existing School Board station. But please, in the short-term, replace the ridiculous fake old street cars with the horrible wooden seats with streamlined modern electric ones. Who came up with this dinosaur design? Did they model it after the Key West Conch Train? Such a lack of current thinking.

The politicos in Miami just copied that Trolley crap from other cities who’ve been using them much longer.

Anonymous

Um, there used to be streetcars like that in Miami, except on tracks. A turntable existed where the Arsht Center is today.

Miami is a lot older than northeastern carpetbaggers and people who came here on a floating door think.

Funny enough, the city held a parade when they retired the last street car. They decorated it as a hearse to celebrate the death of public transportation. True story.

Anonymous

But… but… if people can’t drive their cars they’re not supposed to go.

All those new parking garages need customers too!

Anonymous

The nice weather likely played a role.

I see pictures of a lot of people but did anyone buy any art?

Anonymous

Who cares?

Anonymous

Anonymous

You think?

Anonymous

I did. I bought the one with the duct tape banana.

Anonymous

Excellent investment^

Anonymous

How much did it cost, $1.00?

Anonymous

Wow, who would pay $120,000 for a banana when you can get it for half that at whole foods

Anonymous

hehe.. chimpanzees are laughing…..

A Miami government official using taxpayer money.
