Pop Artist Painting New Mural On 41st Street In Miami Beach

If you though Britto was bad, wait until you see this new mural on Miami Beach’s 41st Street.

A pop artist named Lebo has covered the entire west facade of the Roosevelt Theater with a childlike drawing:

Comparing this to Britto makes no sense…It looks great and definitely better than what was there before. And “child like”? Even so, there is a school across the street and most homes in that area have families, so if anything it is fitting. I think its great!

With your logic, Lebo is unfit to make a family-friendly commission, and it shows from its cheesiness. His main work would terrify children, and probably many grown men.

Yes, that green parrot is incredibly terrifying! PLEASE.

No, it’s incredibly cheesy. I mean ,his other work looks like it was painted by schizophrenics.

I think its great. I guess you like seeing buildings that are falling apart instead.

I’ll take Lebo over Brito.

I’ll take neither. Why not a green wall with brackish water-resistant plants? It’s eco-friendly and deters vandals.

yea, because live green walls are super affordable…I love how people just throw ideas around on this website.

I like seeing buildings restored and used rather than covered in a mural to conceal blight like a Band-Aid.

Childlike drawing? Biased much? Unlike Britto, the artist was born & raised here and is very deserving of this project. Surely this is better than the blank wall…

Fun fact: David (LEBO) is the younger brother of columnist & radio host Dan Lebatard.

Britto is an internationally-acclaimed artist, and has deals with everything from murals, to custom license plates, and sculptures to tableware. Lebo for born in NYC to Cuban parents, and later moved to South Florida, specifically Hollywood. Even city officials called his hometown “gift” ghetto, while Britto has great sculptures steps away in the ArtsPark at Young Circle.

I don’t mean to discredit Lebo, but God the aforementioned mural sucks.

Britto “murals” were painted over from the Sunlife Stadium now called Hard Rock Stadium. A lot of people can not stand Britto “art” anymore. It is like the Flamingos of the 80’s.

It can’t even get its name straight, so do you expect it to have a consistent aesthetic?

Lebo was commissioned by NCL to design the artwork on the side of the Norweigian Getaway.

Whether people like it or not, taste varies

At least this guy is original and paint his art by himself and doesn’t have a sweatshop of illegals painting for him!!!

no matter who it is any “artist” that displays their signature so prominently is a douche, straight up. maimi beach is secondary to the lebo tag all the way on the upper left above the road, you see his signature before anything else.

When the Roosevelt Theatre is finally occupied, hopefully this crap is removed. I want to see something like the old Richard Haas Fontainebleau mural.

Also, I’ve never seen a bird like that in Miami Beach.

I have seen plenty of parrots around Miami Beach.

Miami Beach/Miami is actually known for its feral Monk/Quaker parrot population…

You mean an invasive species? Maybe Lebo should have included Lionfish and Australian pines in the mural as well.

Or the equally invasive Anonymous posters.

I think you should ask yourself, “does this even affect me in the least?” Now we are just looking for things to complain about.
