Renderings Of New Retail Plan At Worldcenter

Worldcenter’s developers have released renderings of their high street retail concept, which they claim is already partially under construction.

New details about the plan include:

  • Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s still haven’t decided if they will be a part of the new plan
  • Total retail space will shrink from 760,000 square feet to around 300,000 to 400,000 sq.ft. Under the previous plan, Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s were to occupy 300,000 square feet of the mall.
  • An amenity deck for Paramount will be located on the rooftops of parking garages and retail buildings instead of the enclosed mall
  • Most pilings for Paramount have been drilled. An official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for March, developer Dan Kodsi told The Real Deal
  • Paramount is 45 percent sold, according to Kodsi
  • Kodsi also claims that over 20 percent of the new retail space is already under construction

Not going to lie, looks good. But I’ll wait to see more renderings.

Reminds me of Design District. Not too shabby. I did secretly think having two malls so close to each other was overkill [Brickell City Center].

I really hope to see some practical retailers which are severely lacking in the area, such as Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Petco, or Office Depot. We shouldn’t have to drive to the beach, Coral Gables, or Hialeah to find some of these shops. In New York these types of stores are integrated on the bottom floors of buildings. Whole Foods is a good example but it shouldn’t have to take a whole city block.

Right? I would hope they would some retail that is a bit more practical. I mean, having a D&G and Versace store is nice, but dammnit, why not a Target or grocery store or a gym? Not everything has to be ultra high end….

Yes I really hope World Center offers an alternative to what BCC offers. A 24 Hr Fitness, Target, Movie theater, any of those would be actual great uses for this area. Miami doesn’t need another gelato shop or high end watch store.

I do like that idea but I would prefer it mixed as well. Some high end and some mid level retail stores and restaurants to appeal to everyone. Live music bands at night and or on the weekends would be nice.

I like it a lot…I like that big circle in the 2nd rendering with the water spurts. I immediately thought of the Buckingham Fountain in Chicago. They could of put a huge fountain there but Ill take the spurts. Hopefully they have more renderings and more details as well.

So this project will have 7 towers all together ? Correct ? Any of them at 1000 ft ?

The tallest are Paramount at 699′ and the Marriott at 640′ .

Now that it’s high street retail, wouldn’t an Eataly fit perfectly on that street … Like the one in Chicago or NY.

Who needs another mall?
This is far more appealing, not to mention
the likes of a real city feel.
Good Going Guys!!!!!

The street-view renderings look nice, and would certainly create better urban activation than a mall, I think.

What’s the difference between this 1- to 3-story retail concept at MWC and what Mana has been proposing along Flagler?

My only complaint with MWC and Flagler/Mana is that they don’t want to add residential/office above this retail. It just doesn’t make much sense to me to limit the number of people that live/work on the property, especially in the middle of downtown.

For example, look at that large green, empty roof towards the bottom left of the 3rd picture, and the large parking garage-looking structure just west of Paramount’s tennis courts. Both of those had towers on them in earlier renderings.

They’re really only going to construct 2-story buildings on half their property after all the time and money they’ve put into them?

I forgot MWC even had a 3rd now-gone tower on the green patch at the bottom right.

This whole complex is adding 5 towers plus 2 hotels though.

” The central space Miami Worldcenter’s developers hope will evoke New York’s “Rockefeller Plaza.” Its use is intended to swing with the seasons, ranging from a farmers’ market to a super-tall Christmas tree for the holidays. ”

Pretty cool, maybe we can do a big New Years celebration here too. Hope it gets to that level. I like skating at Rockefeller plaza when I’m in NY for some winters. Maybe we can have one during the holidays. A portable one. Just saying.

Looks good I also hope they have fun things to do here like Dave & Busters or bowling Alley maybe something like a wax museum, perhaps a theater or movie theater. Something other than just retail to give people a reason to come down there other than just to shop. I feel we have more than enough retail all around Miami people an tourist want to have fun not just shop.

This is precisely the reason Skyrise is paramount to the livability and appeal of downtown Miami. People will come from all over Florida, the U.S. and the World just to be part of that iconic tower.

” Kodak also claims that over 20 per cent of the new retail space is already under construction “. That is just a bald faced lie. There is zero nada zilch retail construction underway between NE 1st Av and NE 2nd Av from 7 the Street till 10th Street. Stop with the BS developer broker babble. Paramount has the only activity and that block is at a snails pace. These people need to hire a public relations expert and come clean to the public.

The only one babbling is you. 20% of the retail is in Paramount and is under construction…learn your facts before “babbling”

This is exciting. I like that they are adding a central plaza focal point since almost every major city has one. This will mimic Rockefellar plaza and hope it does. It will be seasonal so I hope along with that big tall Christmas tree they mentioned, they can add an ice skating rink for the Winter holidays. Hopefully major television networks and major music studios move in and create all type of events there with live shows. They can also maybe place an iconic bronze or gold statue at that central focal point circular ground water fountain – which by the way is pretty cool. I hope this becomes where everybody goes and generates so much ” walking ” traffic towards there. Great job so far.

I like the renderings, but so far this is the third round of renderings in 4 years and we have not seen anything from these people….at the same time BCC is almost done.

I admit I may be a math moron, but how does that math work? The retail space now goes from 700k to 300-400k. If the original plan had 50% of 700k sf go to Macy’s and Bloomingdales… then you can’t have both of them there now, or that’s all you would have for retail, which of course would not work. So obviously there’s only room for one anchor store. And perhaps (and likely) neither will end up there anyway.

Sorry, but I don’t think this is worth ruining the street grid. Looks like a bait and switch.

Everything about this area is fuzzy. Fuzzy math. Fuzzy renderings. Fuzzy ownership. If it walks like a duck ……………… .
