Renderings Released For Two Hotel Proposals At Miami International Airport

Developers have released renderings of proposals to build a hotel connected to the terminals at MIA, the Herald is reporting.

There two proposals are:

  • Westin hotel with 451 rooms, with an estimated budget to build of $265 million. Arquitectonica is the architect, with FDR Miami Hotel LLC the developer.
  • Hilton hotel with over 400 rooms, with an estimated budget to build of $241.7 million. Zyscovich is the architect, with Parmco Airport Hospitality LLC the developer.

Miami-Dade has set a minimum standard for the new facility to be an Upper Upscale hotel (also known as a four-star hotel).

Other minimums include that it must have at least 451 keys; an all day full-service restaurant/bar; rooftop restaurant; pool with terrace; business/meeting/event space; fitness center; and spa.

There will also be a climate-controlled pedestrian connection bridge between the hotel and Concourse D, and valet parking using spaces in MIA’s garage.

FDR Miami Hotel LLC is a joint venture between Jeff Soffer’s Fontainebleau Development, LLC and Stephen Ross’ Related Companies.

The FDR proposal has been recommended by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

The winning bidder will lease the land, build the hotel, and operate it, generating revenue for the county.

The developers presented their proposals to Miami-Dade’s Aviation and Economic Development Committee on June 14. A full commission meeting where a decision is expected to be made is scheduled for July 18.

Hilton looks like it has a better property plan and inviting grounds. Westin has a more striking silhouette and design. Both are great!

Is there not a clearer/better pic of the Hilton? It’s hard to compare the two when one can barely tell what’s being looking at.

Why does the parking lot look so lackluster? Can’t they do better landscaping and parking designs, to conceal them. All these unfinished gravel lots around Miami look atrocious.

The Westin is striking, modern, and futuristic. The Hilton is meh!

How could that overhang reflect the sky and clouds? Or is it another video wall?

Guys don’t get high hopes, this is Miami. By the time this gets started, it will be re-designed a couple times and the cheapest looking will finally win.

That sounds misleading and inaccurate. When comparing Miami to older cities in America and around the world, it is important to note that Miami does have a notable collection of newer buildings with high-quality standards.

Beautiful new hotel next to an airport that looks like it is from the 60s.

I like the Westin one better. Much more iconic. It has a striking design.

The Westin by FDR is by far the better design.

I still remember the DRAAAAMA over Airport City and Odebrecht and how it seemed they were the only construction company in the world. I love the design MUCH needed,

The Hilton looks like a mirage….an illusionary structure…. Purposely made unclear for the other option to win the contest…

Where the Arq haters at? It’s the profit-only driven developers who are mostly responsible for all the uninspired Arq boxes. When they have creative freedom they produce some solid work

As a Miamian for 52 years, Miami int airport is in desperate NEED of an airport transformation. No use of a fancy hotel with a run down, 3rd world looking airport. So sad, what a shame. It’s embarrassing.

Am i the only one that figures anyone wanting to stay in a 4 star hotel would NOT want to stay AT the airport?

I get having a close by hotel for short term/layovers, but I’d think people at that caliber would want to stay somewhere more…..scenic?

This area will become scenic garden destination within Miami. Some of Floridas most scenic destinations are inland and it just takes some vision to get it started!

Expensive airport hotels primarily cater to international business people. You arrive, check in, shower, sleep, check out, go to a meeting somewhere, and at the end of your meeting you’re on an evening flight back home.
