Resorts World Miami Begins Clearing Site, Building Deck

Resorts World Miami has filed for several construction permits at the former Miami Herald site, and at the Omni.

  • At 1 Herald Plaza, a construction permit was approved October 19 under the wood or metal deck/concrete slab category, with a description saying that the work is for foundation & site drainage. Cost of the job is estimated at $345,000, with MVP Construction Services of Margate the contractor.
  • At 425 NE 13 St (the former Herald surface parking lot across the street), demolition of 18,750 square feet is planned, at a cost of $21,000. The permit was approved September 27, with MVP Construction again listed as the contractor.
  • At 1501 Biscayne Boulevard (The Omni complex), a permit was filed October 30 to make repairs on the parking garage. The estimated cost is $689,717, with Bluewater Builders of Coral Springs the contractor. The permit hasn’t been approved yet.

Earlier this year, Art Miami and Context Art Fair announced plans to lease the former Herald site for an undisclosed number of years.

so now it will be a tent city for years to come? All of that because people were afraid a casino would drain money out of condo towers…

Yep. More short-sighted planning from the city. Probably no requirement to take it down for the other 10.5 months of the year.

As much a tent city as Midtown becomes after every Art Basel.

Most of those lots in Midtown are being development now, there will be fewer tents for this Art Basel.

No, and there is a big dirt berm holding up 395, so you have to walk west for a block then take your life into your hands by jumping barriers and walking without sidewalks through the access ramp traffic.
I am hopeful that they will at least construct a temporary bay walk solution for Art Basel.
