Revealed: Mixed-Use Downtown Station, 80-Story Tower

All Aboard Florida has revealed plans for a 3-million square foot mixed-use station downtown, including an 80-story tower.

The transportation hub will include mixed-use development with residential, office, commercial, and a retail concourse, while serving as a connector between All Aboard Florida’s passengers and Miami’s existing public transport systems. The Overtown site will also be a mixed-use development with retail, commercial and parking to support and enhance the transportation hub.

Three towers ranging in height from 15 to 28 stories will sit atop the station, along with the 80-story tower south of the station. The station itself will be elevated 50-feet, allowing for streets to pass through underneath.

Construction on the rail line will begin within the next few months.

I wonder what will happen to the land they own adjacent to the metro center it seems not to show anything on the front part of it . Looks promising looking forward to see more detailed plans. hopefully the connection to metro rail and metro mover will be at the metro center, i think that would be the only place that you would be able to transfer to the metro mover

Construction was supposed to start months ago. I am becoming a skeptic.

maybe they are waiting for Scott to be thrown out in Nov, and hope that Charlie will renegotiate with the Feds to get the funds that were supposed to be used in the Orlando – Tampa rail. If they funds were invested in making it faster or safer, rather than on the stations it would be worth it.

Or with Charlie the economy will go down and nothing will be built!!!

Except they are using OUR taxpayer money to do this.

It was federal funds that the state denied. Those federal funds went to another state.

Our taxpayer money is federal funds.

I like the idea of this station being downtown, but I don’t understand why the new MIC by the airport isn’t used. Isn’t the whole point of the MIC to consolidate the different modes of transportation?

The MIC caters the traveler/visitor near the airport while the downtown station caters to everyone I suppose.

All Aboard Florida is not privately funded but is subsidized. Nice design. http://thelibertycaucus.com/action-issues/seven50/all-aboard-florida/

The renderings submitted to the county who are approving the downtown station under the Rapid Transit Zone standards are completely different:

CAN WE PLEASE GET RID OF THE AGGRESSIVE HOMELESS THAT DEFECATE AND CAMP IN DOWNTOWN? ITS NOT EVEN SAFE TO WALK THE AREA BY DAY LET ALONE NIGHT.

If the idiots who operate the Govt center station didn’t lock the bathrooms at 3pm daily then the homeless and I would have a place to pee and defecate. Best place is n the driver’s side door of each commissioner’s and the Mayors parking places, unless the have a driver, in which case the passenger side is preferred. Perhaps then they might get the message, but I doubt it. They ignore most of the needs of he people. Why should the need for a bathroom be any different?

The plans guarantee the buildings will be covered with mold and mildew just like the Metrorail Stations.

The reason the homeless pee and defecate around the Govt Center Metrorail Station is because the idiots who run the station lock the bathrooms after 3pm, cruelly depriving the homeless as well as the non homeless of a necessary facility. It is cruel, heartless and stupid. For older people with bladder problens it is especially cruel and an ADA class action suit is being prepared,
Many of the homeless politely and neatly use the Public Library bathrooms and are rarely a problem. The problem is with the politicians whose policies create the conditions causing people to become homeless and gather downtown.
