Mandarin Oriental is working on plans to open a second hotel in Miami, a tipster tells us.
The person wasn’t aware of where it would be built, but said that it would be connected to the Metrorail.
One possible location for the new hotel is the 1,049-foot tall One Brickell City Centre tower, where Swire Properties is planning 120 hotel rooms on the top levels of the building. Swire is also planning 256 condos in the building, which could take on branding of The Residences at Mandarin Oriental.
Both Swire and Mandarin Oriental are based in Hong Kong. The Mandarin Oriental hotel on Brickell Key is 75% owned by Swire, with the remainder owned by Mandarin Oriental. Miami would become the first city outside of Hong Kong with two separate hotels managed by the brand.
