Scale Model Of Major Supertall Tower Planned In Brickell: Planning Comments Released

Developer JDS has released a photo of a scale model of their Major supertall tower planned on Brickell Avenue.

The 82-story, 1,049-foot project also continues to move through the approval process with Miami-Dade planners.

On April 14, Miami-Dade planners released comments to the initial design, with a request for:

  • Wider sidewalks
  • More landscaping
  • Pedestrian access prioritized over driveway access
  • Electric vehicle charging stations and bicycle parking
  • Shade trees instead of palm trees proposed at ground level

Major is planned to include 259 condo units, along with multiple food and beverage outlets.

Studio Sofield is the design consultant, with ODP the architect of record.

It reminds me of Rockefeller Center. It does justice to all the Art Deco building in Miami. (Please build!)

It’s king of weird looking. That base needs work. What’s up with those golden figurines at the top?!

It’s called ornamentation, Arquitectonica.

What, you want a giant box and parking pedestal with an ugly mural of somebody’s face zoomed in and assorted sheet metal?

Wow…what a great addition to our ever expanding skyline….if this is built as presented here it will be unique in its neo classical design element and add a level of originality we don’t see very often down here

We need at least 10 more 1000 footers! But this looks amazing!

They need to let a few buildings go up to 1200 ft.

This is awesome, the one and only thing I wish Miami would learn from Chicago and New York is more beautiful (and timeless) architecture.

LOVE IT – Sculpture on top. Very creative and inventive,, Build it. Approve it It will be a great addition to our skyline. Put some of those gold figural works that are on top – on the bottom as well. It would unifiy the building

Props to the planners at the County, providing comments and requests that are no brainers for an urban development. somehow, the planners at city of miami have been asleep for the past 10+ years.

In a few years the Skyline will look like a plateau at 1,049ft. The FAA needs to make the limit higher if Miami wants to expand.

What the FAA needs to do is to make Downtown Miami a no-fly zone and divert many of the flight paths either through Edgewater and Wynwood or through Coconut Grove. It’s perplexing why the FAA doesn’t do this and even more odd why the city of Miami doesn’t petition the FAA to change the flight patterns.

The gold accents on the model appear to be representative of varying shades of tiles.

I love all trees, but the shade trees will be really nice. Start creating really nice canopies of trees in Brickell, downtown and Edgewater/Midtown. People feel comfortable with nice shade trees. Makes the area look comfortable, upscale, and cools. So many benefits!

The podium is hideous, but I love the rest of the tower.

Why can’t Miami architects incorporate the garage into the building in a seemless fashion like 1000 Museum? Instead we get a LEGO block design that looks like it was put together by a 4 year old.

Nah, this building isn’t going to be either gold or tacky.

NYC Transplant

Trump Tower is all glass. This is echoes some of the more classic architecture in Manhattan. More gravitas than most of the design work that has shown up here.

I guess you prefer the Icon? There are only a handful of decent towers in Miami. Most are just cracker boxes with balconies.
