A spokesperson for FDOT has explained the reason for the delays to the Signature Bridge construction project.
The completion date is now late 2027. It was originally expected to be completed in Fall 2023.
The FDOT spokesperson told Miami Today that the reason for the delay includes supply chain issues, weather, and holidays.
If the latest deadline holds, it will mean around 9 years of construction in total.
The contract began in October 2018, with a four-year deadline to the contractor for completion and a budget of $802 million. Construction began in early 2019.
Extension of the deadline was permitted under certain circumstances, including weather and major events.
The project includes a rebuild of the intersection at I-95, the 836, and I-395 at the entrance to downtown Miami.
A Signature Bridge with multiple illuminated arches and a separate span of double-deck highway are among the many components of the project.
