Signature Bridge Project Completion Pushed To Late 2027; Double Deck Highway Poured

The completion date for the massive Downtown Miami Signature Bridge and highway reconstruction project has been pushed back to late 2027, according to the project website.

The project budget remains listed at $840 million, as it was last year.

Last year, the project website listed a completion date of Summer 2026.

Before that, the completion date was listed as Fall 2023.

The contract began in October 2018, with a four-year deadline to the contractor for completion and a budget of $802 million. Extension of the deadline was permitted under certain circumstances, including weather and major events.

The project includes a rebuild of the intersection at I-95, the 836, and I-395 at the entrance to downtown Miami.

A Signature Bridge with multiple illuminated arches and a separate span of double-deck highway are among the many components of the project.

Preparation for pouring a second span of double-deck highway was underway last month, according to a March 8 stakeholder presentation.

PLEASE STOP:

– banning books and theater. As adults we know what is age appropriate, and we want our gov to go after actual bad actors, not free speech.

– voting for open carry laws. Florida is having stampedes at public events where people think there is an attack. Guns in the open scare people.I’d rather see guns with trained police.

DO focus on improving roads and transportations, healthcare, education, and less radical morality policing.

Every time I pass by the construction after 5pm on weekdays, and anytime on weekends, I see little or no construction workers on site. I’ve seen other construction in other parts of the world where workers are present 24/7 (for sure various shifts), and they get the construction done much faster than this.

Yet in the middle of the day on Saturday the FDOT blocked lanes of traffic with only one work truck to repave I95. Real smart FDOT and Gov DuhSantis!

This work should have been done through the night by a team of people. The State government is asleep on the job, or out campaigning in other states. It’s like there’s nobody managing and making smart decisions on the state level in Florida.

We need better local and State representatives who are thinking of Florida 2055 not trying to recreate 1955.

Yes and don’t forget that Covid happened and we had a 2+ year period where there was much less traffic on the highways than normal. Obviously that further complicated and delayed the highway construction work.

They’d rather live an easy fast money lifestyle, in pretend title jobs, and then they want to come in and buy a big brand new house and car with the help of their parents, because they’re American, and that’s the American way……..Can you imagine if all the millions of young men in this country, focused on building luxury homes for 25 years? We’d all be rich living in great homes by the time we retire.

Jose Martí Park is on the Brickell border with Riverside. There are “west brickell” properties west of Jose Martí Park. It’s just a sales term to sell property west of I95 (or by the elites on the bay to make their old buildings seem more special). Brickell, Riverside and Little Havana have more full time residents downtown than any other area, so I think there are a lot of people who would benefit from improved development. I said that the moment the state announced that they were turning over the underdeck park to the City for completion, which was cop out by the state. If left for the City to complete it, we will never see it, and if we do see it, there will be no maintenance period. This will eventually become a gigantic drug den.

It sounds like you haven’t made any effort to attend the community meetings, didn’t listen, or can’t comprehend what’s going on.

FDOT is NOT very good at creating public spaces. My opinion, maybe you disagree.
FDOTs drawings did not address any specific community needs or desires. They were cheap, and thrown together as if an afterthought.

The non-profits and volunteer board rallied the community, and has raised funds to buy MUCH better plans; architecturally, fiscally, sustainably, and inclusive of as many stakeholders as possible.

It would be helpful to check out the website http://www.underdeckmiami.com to learn more and accept the invite to any of the open meetings. They seem to last until the last idea is thrown out there.

For any of you itching to pay more taxes or who will answer the call when they pass the hat, there will be opportunity when the time comes.

Completely predictable. Its a dumb idea that should never have seen the light of day but FDOT approved to give their contractor buddies a kickback.

Whats lost is that they essentially had almost two years of reduced traffic because of Covid to get this done faster and yet its spiraling into a decade plus boondoggle. Very similar to the 826/836 interchange that took a decade, cost millions upon millions of lost work hours and its effect on traffic has been unnoticeable.

Keep these clowns away from the Golden Glades at all costs. Thats a catastrophe in the making that will severely impact commuters. Better to leave it as is as this should have been.

Huge price tag for something that will be just as congested a few years after completion. I understand it’s hard for a car dependent country to change but other developed countries are just passing us by. And gas prices are only going to become higher. Seriously?? That is ridiculous if true. The Marlins don’t even get enough attendance at their games for the traffic to have an affect, and nearly all the games are played in the evenings or on weekends when traffic is lighter anyway. Traffic going to the Heat games can get backed up at times, but again it only happens on nights and weekends. It’s no different from normal rush hour traffic.

There is zero reason that traffic associated with Marlins and Heat games should have any impact on this construction project or serve as a reason for them to justify delays in construction. Absurd.
