Skyviews Miami ‘Ferris Wheel On Steroids’ Nearly Ready: Prices & Opening Date Revealed

Downtown Miami’s Skyviews attraction is being touted as a “Ferris Wheel on Steroids” by promoters as it approaches completion.

The amusement ride is being built behind Bayside Marketplace and is set to open soon.

According to the Skyviews website, a grand opening is scheduled for March.

Last week, the first of 42 climate controlled gondolas began arriving at the site, with the wheel itself now in place.

Ticket prices for adults will be $16, with seniors and military at $13, and children at $10.

The wheel rises 176 feet. By comparison, the Skyrise tower next door is planned at 1,049 feet.

Just to put things into perspective.
Vegas/Linq wheel at 550 ft.
London Eye 433 feet.
Dubai Wheel to open this year at 690.
This is 176 feet.
Why are we building something so small and not trying to set our City apart? Move forwards and not backwards? Or, don’t build it at all.

Anonymous

because wind

Anonymous

yeah the only time that thing would be fun is in a major storm

Anonymous

We can go to the moon and back, and we can’t design/build one strong enough? For all the young ones….yeah we used to go to the moon.

Anonymous

YEP, Miami thinks small. ONE metro rail line for the last 40 plus years with only one itty bitty extension to MIA.

Anonymous

Yeah, but you must look at the bright side – at least they gave us a few more free trolleys!

Anonymous

Well, if you moved back to fabulous Ohio, you could ride the streetcar in Cincinnati, you cluelessFM.

Anonymous

rust belt rip

Anonymous

Hapless city officials.

Anonymous

copying other cities in not moving forward my dear.

Anonymous

Coping other cities and making it much smaller is disastrous my dear.
Tell that to Dubai at 690 feet.
What turnip truck did you fall from?

Anonymous

Because of hurricanes and soon this will all be under water genius

Anonymous

The very first Ferris wheel ever was 264 ft tall and it was built in the 1800s.

Anonymous

But they don’t have GOOD cuban coffee or cuban sandwiches in Dubai, London or Vegas and we have real sports here, all of them! including soccer, cruise ships, JLo and Shaquera, Bad Boys 1, 2 & 3, and real tropics with real alligators and much better fishing than all those areas combined. So we have a small ferris wheel, i’ll take Miami any day over those areas.

Anonymous

Like it or not at least it offers more choices to those who visit bayside….the same thing in Orlando looks great and is popular…this will be too

Anonymous

Blahhhh… bring on the resort casino for us adults.

Anonymous

all nude reviews with friction

Anonymous

$16 is a lot but less than I expected.

POLO

Skyviews is designed mainly for tourists, and $16 seems reasonably.

POLO

….reasonable

Anonymous

Completely agree that it is reasonable. I find most people in Miami complain too much about prices and are very cheap. They even complain about Brightline charging $5 to carry their bicycles or how all transit should be free. Perhaps if they weren’t so cheap, this Ferris wheel could be built at a height to least make us comparable to other cities. They demand a “world class city”, but want Tallahassee prices.

Anonymous

Incomes here are cheap. Pay is much closer to Tallahassee than NYC.

Anonymous

Agree.
Too small. I just left Vegas yesterday and was at the Linq. At least that one is tall. This one does nothing for Miami as it is too small. Why ride it when you can go 5 times the height on Skyrise? – assuming Skyrise gets built.

Anonymous

Pretty sure the idea is to get rid of this after Skyrise is built

Anonymous

Where’d you get that info?

Anonymous

So, basically until it rusts to dust?

Anonymous

This is dumb

Anonymous

Ferris wheels are okay for London, Vienna, Chicago, and Dubai. In addition, New York City has been trying to get one done. This is fine for a tourist area.

Anonymous

The ones in the cities you mention are massive unlike this one.

Anonymous

Vienna 212 ft
Atlanta 200 ft
Not that much different. Skyrise will be our Icon.

Anonymous

Those cities are London, Chicago, Dubai and NYC. Miami is in their league.

Anonymous

paaalease

Anonymous

We’ll have the SkyRise which has a Ferris wheel right on top of it at 1000 feet high. We don’t need this additional one, this is stupid.

Anonymous

Besides the Skyrise and this Ferris Wheel, they also proposed on by the AAA. Basically the new Miami’s skyline will be a full on penis with testicles…

Anonymous

$16 for an adult?!

A family of 4 will pay $52 and a family of 5 will pay $62.

Time to update the name from “Ferris Wheel on Steroids” to “Ghost Ferris Wheel”

Anonymous

Thanks for the math lesson!

Anonymous

agree. no one is gonna pay that much to see what? stupid.

Brickellite

My family will wave to yours from the top, while you guys bring a boxed lunch and sit in the park..

Anonymous

They’ll be laughing and pointing up at the suckers that blew $16 per person on this kiddie ride.

Anonymous

Locals here are so cheap. They want everything free.

Anonymous

Most locals here have to value money. For locals it’s $16 bucks to go up in a flying seat or to buy a day’s worth of groceries. Dummy tourists with money to burn hungry for an experience might pay for this, though probably not too many.

Anonymous

How much will it cost for my family of six? And if nana joins, how much then?

Anonymous

How is this thing going to stay in business once skyrise is built.

Anonymous

It won’t

Jesus

Yeah but Skyrise is still in planning. If they had better situations on their side, they would be at least halfway done.

Anonymous

Wasn’t this approved for the Super Bowl?…which, it’s passed and gone.

Anonymous

They didn’t say which one….

Anonymous

YES !! And Psycho Joe had it delayed because they didn’t put it in the park under his thumb !!!

Anonymous

Atlanta has had one of these up since 2013 and I believe it’s the same size as this one and it’s been pretty popular. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work here also.

Anonymous

Because they are building a wheel on top of the Skyrise, which will be bigger and at 1,000 feet of altitude. Why do we need 2?

Anonymous

Well at the rate Skyrise is moving it’s better to have this than nothing.

Anonymous

The Skyviews is for people that ate afraid of heights. Skyrise at 1,049 FT will be too tall for those people.

Anonymous

More like a Ferris Wheel on Hydroxycut.

Magazine

Okay, so an opening date has not been announced. Just “March”

Anonymous

March of any given year…your pick lol

Anonymous

LMAO

EJS

That’s prime real estate! The city/county? would have netted so much from a developer who could have built a resi or office tower with rooftop tourist observation deck / restaurant. This wheel will be torn down by 2030.

Anonymous

restaruants on top of buildings is very 1970s

Anonymous

Okay, Mr. Future-Forward, let’s hear about your concepts which are straight from The Jetsons.

Anonymous

what moron is actually gonna pay for that?

Anonymous

Will be a great view of the hooters at Hooters.

Anonymous

first they called “iconic”, now it is a “Ferris wheel on steroids”, are they withholding information? or is this thing catapulting the gondolas into government cut or something?
miami, miami, miami the shit we can say.

Anonymous

Very iconic

Anonymous

Very moronic

Anonymous

I was being facetious guys

Anonymous

This will mostly be packed during evenings and night. Why are the gondolas built with such dark glass? You cant enjoy anything looking outside at night. Terrible idea. If they can still, swap it with clear or light blue tinted glass.

Anonymous

Miami is really screaming how the city rates with this carnival ride.

Anonymous

Of course it’s a tourist trap, but guess what tourist traps do: make money. Will be successful.

Word is Skyrise will not move forward. This is a good alternative. Stop complaining.

Anonymous

should have been as big as the buildings

Anonymous

This is much better than a Gentings World Resort Casino. Also, I hope there is plenty of parking.

Bayside Winning!!!!

Anonymous

This is 100% going to bring in as much tax revenue as Genting World Resort Casino!!!! No more property taxes for sure!

Anonymous

Yep, it’s official, Miami is full of the most nuttiest people in the world.

Anonymous

Genting paid troll post alert.

Anonymous

Another dull and boring old fart in Miami alert.

Anonymous

Another reason to avoid the Bayside Marketplace….

Anonymous

I actually like Bayside market, can’t wait for the Skyrise to rise up. This wheel, not so much.
