Surfside Building With Glass Bottom Pool Proposed By Dubai-Based Developer

A Dubai-based developer has just filed plans for a luxury residential project in Surfside – and renderings show what appears to be a glass-bottomed pool at the top.

According to a press release from developer Damac, there will be two buildings connected by a 100-foot rooftop pool (another 75-foot exercise pool is planned indoors).

The proposal is for the Champlain Towers South, where a building collapsed in 2021. Damac purchased the property in 2022 for $120 million.

Zaha Hadid Architects is designing the new development, and prepared two alternatives for Surfside planners based on two possible interpretations of town planning ordinances. The first alternative steps in on the South elevation, while the second maintains consistent elevations on all sides.

The proposed architecture features “cloud-like” design elements, with a “precision engineered” façade.

A total of 57 condos are planned, ranging from 4,000 to 15,000 square feet.

Damac has previously developed project in collaboration with brands that include Cavalli and Versace.

In New Orleans they still haven’t figured out what to do with the lot of the building collapse in which 3 died. In Miami they have no problem building on a graveyard because the families got $$$$$$$$$.

Javanka, wake up, the families of the Champlain towers victims literally let bulldozers pick up the remains of their loved ones because it would have been too much work and expense to pick through all the rubble for their elder loved ones. If my Grammies died at that site I would have made sure that it became a memorial, but of course, they only care about the money, which is sad because this problem seems to be widespread, and so many older wealthy individuals move to south Florida not for the year round summer weather and luxury housing, but, they move here to live out the rest of their lives in a safe environment, free of narcissistic children elder abuse. Also, this event has NSA scum approved, stamped all over it. Hopefully the millions each family received is enough to keep them occupied for a given time, and help keep the rest of us safe from their abuse. In the meantime, everyone needs to keep the NSA out of Florida, and let people be free while they are on vacation.

Yeah ok, but I heard that insurance was willing to cover the cost to bring in workers to remove each piece of rubble by hand so that the families of deceased could give them a proper burial, but the families rejected the offer because they didn’t want to delay the inheritance process. That’s also why they didn’t hire any attorneys to stop Miami dade from demolishing the structure. Meanwhile, across the bay in Miami, a bunch of schemers are trying to keep a site from being developed because there’s some ancient bones in the dirt.

Average teacher pay at MDCPS is barely $55k/yr. No way you’re swinging buying a $300k place on that income. A Gumby stretch on even 85k/yr. And how many decades did it take to go from $300k to $12 million, and where was it?

Your comment tells us you’ve never considered homeownership because that’s not how it works. Someone purchasing a $300k property doesn’t need to have $300k in the bank. Lol Besides, most households have two earners. If a teacher makes around $55k (which, I agree is low), they are likely to have a partner making at least that amount. With a $100k household income, there’s no reason the household can’t save up for a few years and purchase a $300k property.

#1. He wasn’t a Miami-Dade teacher. He made less than Miami Dade teachers. Florida private school teacher.

#2. The purchase was made in 1983. Waterfront Miami Beach when “smart” people wouldn’t touch Miami Beach….AND the annual salary was probably less than 10% of the purchase price.

#3. The $12m sale happened around 2015…and the same property sold again for $19m around 2022.

“Waiting”? Do you think living on the waterfront in Miami Beach is just “waiting”. Watching dolphins swim by from your yard could be worse.

Another nice thing about being a smart teacher is that even with 13% interest rates like in 1983, the +/- $2,000 per month mortgage is paid off in 30 years.

So, when you sell for $12m, their is no mortgage to pay off.

However, maybe you are on to something, maybe making $12m is not good, and it would be better to rent for 30 years. $2,000 x 12 x 30 = $720,000 (of course assuming the waterfront rent never goes up year over year)
