Tech Company With 2,000 Employees Moving HQ To Miami

Another tech company has announced plans to relocate to Miami, according to Bloomberg.

Anaplan, a software company with 2,000 employees worldwide, said last week it would relocate its headquarters from San Francisco to Miami.

The company was taken private by Thoma Bravo for $10.4 billion last year.

Thoma Bravo itself announced a Miami office at 830 Brickell in 2021, after founder Orlando Bravo relocated here.

Anaplan’s new Miami offices will open in early 2024.

From the article: ” a software company with 2,000 employees worldwide” – does not mean 2,000 employees are moving to the new HQ. According to Anaplan’s website, they have 14 offices globally. That doesn’t mean they’re closing the other 13 and moving them here. Their current HQ in SF is a 3 story building. It’s great for any company to come here and bring jobs, but the lack of basic logical reasoning or comprehension by the readers of this site is astounding.

Well, no one said that we thought 2,000 people would be moving in. You assumed that and commented on your own assumption… that is more astounding to me.

“ Looks like more demand for urban core apartments! We love to see it.”

This implies we need 2,000 housing units. I would say your ability to use logical reasoning and basic reading comprehension are astounding, but you already proved that by not being able to read between the lines in the earlier comments.

I wrote that comment and I didn’t say anywhere that 2,000 employees would be moving. I assumed that at least *some* employees of this company would be wanting to live in the lively area of Miami, i.e., the Urban Core, since that has been happening with other relocations.

The article says, “The firm, …, had subleased approximately 55,000 square feet for its corporate headquarters on Hawthorne Street in San Francisco.”

Operative word, “had”. Now, they are relocating their corporate HQ to Miami where their new CEO currently lives.

Dopey “news sources”, and even sloppy reporting from other “news” sources about ANDI leaving Miami for SF is maddening.

The “journalists” neglected to mention where this so-called Miami HQ existed, but a Tech Crunch article quoted the founder less than one year ago saying that she met her co-founder in the Denver Airport, and they run there business as digital nomads. A critical thinker would wonder how a corporate headquarter got away with an office lease that is less than one year? Or…..did Andi raise $2.5m, run out of money, and her Brickell 3 bedroom and premium WeWork Membership no longer made sense to their new CEO. Inquiring business people want to know. Unfortunately, the supposed Miami HQ location of Andi is not reported in the Real Deal or the SFBJ.

I can image the scene.
EXT. PURA VIDA – DAY

Two young women in their 20s, ANDI (26) and ASHLEY (26), sit at a tables right next to each other. ANDI is wearing jeans, a t-shirt and cross body bag and working on a laptop , and ASHLEY is yoga pants and a Zadig & Voltaire t-shirt mostly focused on her iPhone.

ASHLEY
Hi, I see you like literally every day, but we haven’t met. I’m Ashley. How’s it going?

ANDI
Ah…yeah. Hi Ansley. We live in same building, right?

ASHLEY
Yeah. I really love your bag, what are you working on?

ANDI
Well…I have this start up and, well, it’s going. I’ve put my heart into this.

ASHLEY
Oh my God, I’m rooting for you. That is so great! You are so young! There has got to be a story here…I’m a writer! Tell me more about your story!

Andi looks around the coffee shop.

ANDI
I can’t believe how expensive everything is getting. Especially rent. We raised $2.5m in 2021 and now the investors hired a new CEO in Silicon Valley. They aren’t going to let me renew my lease!

ASHLEY
I know, right? It’s ridiculous. So….you are moving your Headquarters to Silicone Valley?

ANDI
I have to….and I’m starting to think about moving back in with my parents.

ASHLEY
No way! You can’t do that. You’re an adult.

ANDI
I know, but it’s just so hard to afford to live on my own, and these investors expect me to grow and increase revenues to provide a return.

ASHLEY
I hear you. I’m thinking about doing a story on technology companies leaving Miami for San Francisco. The higher ups at our paper want that to seem like it’s a big problem in our city.

ANDI
Really? That doesn’t make sense….I moved here for a reason, and if I didn’t have to have a San
Francisco based CEO, no way I’d move to San Francisco.

ASHLEY
(As if not listening to a word ANDI just said)
Thanks. How long were your headquartered in Miami?

ANDI
Well, less than a year and really, we were digital nomads and outsourcing all the vital functions necessary for scale. Thing is…my lease is coming up soon, and that new CEO that I mentioned, he wants to have more fiscal controls and accountability on what is left of the $2.5m.

ASHLEY
Hmm….
Well, I can leave all that out and still do a great story about how tech companies moving their Headquarters for my South Florida Business Enquirerer, and maybe other publications, like the SquealDeal, will just pick up this story without Googling the address of ANDI’s Headquarters.

ANDI
Thanks. They say no publicity is bad publicity. Do people really believe you?

Andi packs up her laptop and walks away. Ashley watches her go, then sits back down at the table and opens her laptop. She starts typing.

I would love for Big Pharma to move in! Pfizer, Bristol Myers Squibb, Novartis, Merck, etc.

I am getting a pharmacy degree and I would love to work for pharma while living in Miami, most of these HQs are in New Jersey and that’s a big no no for me😅

medication that is made with tax payers money, given to private companies for public official kickbacks and then sold at 1000x value to a monopoly market. No part of that is innovative, free market or saving anyones lives. its a SCAM and WE are the mark.

in other words, they belong in miami.

I believe that Big Pharma can have some sort of presence in Miami, but the problem is that Pfizer isn’t going to relocate to Miami from NYC, nor is Bristol Myers Squibb or Merck going to move out of NJ to FL. It’s either going to have to be organically done, meaning Miami and FL are going to have to grow it’s own pharma companies rather than trying to poach Pharma companioning its located somewhere else!

Little by little all major companies will make the move to Florida due to the no state income tax and beautiful weather. Let’s not have Texas outbid us though!

I hope it opens in the riverside area along the river west of 95, so many abandoned warehouses that need to be retrofitted for modern urbanism and perfect location for HQs

Miami Worldcenter would be a great location!

Tim

MWC it has its own thing, bowling restaurants hotels, time square kind of vibe, but it’s not big enough for campuses or the right vibe for tech. All the HQ campuses should help renovate riverside and fill this side of the core which is connected to Brickell and Downtown and has that creative base to transform an area underutilized into a vibrant part of the core.

I agree Riverside (historically east little Havana) or Brickell would be perfect

Anonymous

Wrong way around. East Little Havana is historically Riverside, and going further west what’s also considered “Little Havana” to the Coral Gables city line include but are not limited to… Riverview, Riverside Heights, Central Park, Beacom Manor, Citrus Grove, Auburndale, etc.

Riverside Rising

Riverside, found just east of Little Havana on modern maps, isn’t just historic but also a contemporary neighborhood. Although it’s occasionally associated with Little Havana, there are notable distinctions. Riverside, less developed than Little Havana, features abandoned warehouses and storage units, unlike the authentic Little Havana west of SW 12th Avenue on 8th Street. Situated to the east, Riverside is poised for transformation, located west of I-95 and Brickell, with substantial upcoming changes.

Riverside is also an opportunity zone for downtown development, situated directly adjacent and walkable to Brickell, and has for more waterfront property than most parts of Miami.

transform on the west or north border of Brickell with more HQs

You mean giant metal sheds with no historic value? No, I’d rather see them relocate to Greater Downtown Miami to increase the demand for world-class office towers.

Riverside (historic east LH) is a part of greater downtown, one of most desirable waterfront areas along the new River Walk – prime for HQs, innovation and fresh looks 💅

Think about it…HQs can be their own low to mid rise buildings – they could build entire campuses there and be a part of the urban core

I know so many who wish they could transfer down here, looking for jobs that don’t require Spanish and having a hard time relocating to Miami. It’s a desirable work market. I think HQs will allow more diversity of backgrounds to transfer here.

That view always gets me. What could epitomize an economic miracle with a canyon of buildings which didn’t exist ten years ago, is spoiled by three murals, two Microsoft Paint color bars gone wild and something that looks like it was drawn in a middle schooler’s notebook.

It gets you.

Whether you like Jorge Perez or not. His name is on the Perez Art Museum Miami.
Your name is not on that Herzog & de Meuron museum.

He co-developed SLS LUX, you did not.

Jorge Perez saw the Fabian Burgos sculptors in the middle of the Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires, and commissioned him to paint these murals. (He may have passed over your contributions. For all I know you are a gentleman of exquisite taste, or perhaps you have made no contribution to society other than this The Next Miami post knocking international artists).

As for Jen Stark….I love it is fun. Not that she has time to critique your writing, but I’d guess that if she were honest, she’d say something to the effect of, “This Anonymous if far less interesting than most Anonymuses” And she might say, “My work gets photographed more than the security cameras photograph you at your 7-11 cashier job”.

Please don’t move to Miami! We’re full! We don’t want more fcking people living here! Traffic is already shit! You can’t drive anywhere without being 10 million years in traffic just to get to work. Just to drive from homestead to south beach in the morning takes 2hrs.45 minutes due to traffic. Its ridiculous! We don’t want more people here. And if you move here you’re not going to like it, so dont!!!
