Temporary Fire Station Being Built At Brickell City Centre’s North Squared

At Brickell City Centre’s North Squared Lot, a pre-fab structure has been installed.

Developer Swire Properties has said they are planning a temporary fire station on the lot.

Building Department records show that the North Squared construction project includes, 1,640 square feet of pre-fab structure, along with an aluminum canopy and screen wall gates.

The estimated construction cost is listed on the permit at $288,000.

Origin Construction is listed as the contractor.

The status of the fire station was brought up in 2022, when Swire requested zoning changes needed for the One Brickell City Centre supertall tower it is planning.

Swire had agreed to build a permanent fire station in 2019, as part of the approval for two new mostly-residential Brickell City Centre towers that will be built on the Tobacco Road and Associated Photo properties.

The developer commenced construction permitting in 2019 for a temporary fire station to be built on the North Squared lot that will be in place until the permanent station is built inside one of the new towers.

The city then halted the permitting process for the temporary station, but later allowed it to resume, a representative of the developer told commissioners last year.

The permanent fire station will be in one of these two new towers, while the temporary station will be on the North Squared lot across from the former La Centrale.

They couldn’t just clip a fire extinguisher to the Metromover post?

They can’t even fix the escalators and elevators

But let’s still totally extend it to Wynwood, Miami Beach, and Little Havana in its current sad state!

Curious how a fire station will be incorporated into “mostly- residential” towers…also interested to see if the entire area near the river including the surrounding Lofty streets will be rerouted or totally redesigned for a surge in pedestrian activity as it’s currently a web of car centric streets not suited for what’s ahead.

At the ground level. It’s done in many cities across the country.

They should add some pedestrian only streets and paseos all around Brickell

How are two Arquitectonica buildings, one decent and the other a box with wavy facade, as if that hasn’t been done countless times before, with parking pedestals at the street level right along the river, going to take Miami into the next level?

These renderings have been around for years. Does this mean they’re actually going to build one of these towers now? Is there any other activity?

As soon as the temporary fire station is built, permitting will move forward for the new towers.
