Terra Announces Plans For 38-Acre CentroCity, With Target & 1,200 Units

Terra Group has announced plans for a mixed-use project in Miami called CentroCity.

CentroCity is proposed to include:

  • 1,200 apartments
  • 250,000 square foot Class A commercial office building
  • Revamp of a shopping center with 300,000 square feet of lifestyle-oriented retail
  • New 77,000-square-foot Target store in the shopping center (Target has signed a lease)

CentroCity will be built by redeveloping the Central Shopping Plaza across from the Magic City Casino.

The first phase will be the redevelopment of the shopping center with a new façade, common areas, landscaping, and signage.

The project’s first phase of residential development will follow, with three 8-story multifamily buildings including 460 garden-style rental apartments each.

A total of seven new courtyard buildings are planned on the 38 acre property.

Construction is expected to get underway in Summer 2021.

Arquitectonica is the architect, with RSP Architects overseeing the shopping center upgraded.

Miami’s Urban Development Review Board reviewed the proposal at a meeting in November 2020.

A garage instead of a parking lot to facilitate more green space would be more beneficial to the community.

Amazing. Let’s not build just by the coast! Miami needs density all over.

Why not redevelop the parking lot? Turn it into something like downtown Dadeland?

That will probably happen later on, maybe 2030 timeline

The casino across the street will be redeveloped, too. Courtesy of all the money funding the ballot measure from the Rat in Orlando, and low-information Karens voting by feels, racing dogs specifically bred for racing has been banned, rather than regulating more efficiently to stop animal abuse in the industry.

I think it is ok that a casino may be redeveloped into homes and workplaces that meet human needs.

The whole Central Shopping Plaza should be razed.
It’s an eyesore. The size of the parking lot is a waste of space.
That combined with the size of the parking lot at the casino and a few empty lots on 37th Ave. and 7th Street make up for a mini city.

I hope one day they extend metro rail up douglas road and 37th and connect the airport and the Douglas Road station as a loop with stops in Gables, this location, and Miami Freedom Park if that ever happens

My sources tell me that while Miami Freedom Park is not dead, it’s in a coma.

Miami Intermodal Center is right by the Freedom Park area- I believe the plan is to build a bridge from the park to the station so that we can take the metro to games. But a stop right at the stadium would be nice, it could even run through Marlins Park as well.

Forget about a soccer stadium in Miami.
Too many a holes putting roadblocks.
Watch Broward get it.
They’re extending red carpets to Beckham and his entourage

Branding this a “city” when it’s like 75% a surface parking lot is peak words-mean-nothing-anymore.

I seen this one before. It’s also going to include a target. That’s great. That means we will get some affordable housing with some rental apartments and offices to bring in good paying jobs from Miami and a brand new target. How long will it take to complete the entire project.?

Like the development. It’s a good addition with the soccer stadium coming but they will need to bridge the shopping center and residential by creating some open air space in the middle of the shopping center.

Most the neighborhoods surrounding the casino were originally platted in the 1920s or 1930s before the casino was built. The area is still relatively affordable, so it’s not like there’s any risk.

I love seeing people cry about a developer not building on the entire parking lot like they are the ones forking over money to build. No developer just jumps into a major development like this without having a long term plan. Terra probably will leave that lot sitting idle for now until they finish construction and can prove that there is more demand to continue developing or some other developer comes around and pays them a lot of money to start building. Very doubtful that will be a parking lot for the long term.

Look like an upgraded projects with a target in the middle. What a waste of an opportunity. And again, is arquitectónica the only god damn design firm that exists?
