If you want ultra-fast internet service in Miami Beach, you may soon have several options.
AT&T announced today that it plans to offer 1-gigabit-per-second internet service in Miami Beach, along with Aventura, and part of Broward. The service is already available in some parts of the Miami area.
Two other companies could also be offering the service in Miami Beach.
In July, Atlantic Broadband said that it is spending $6.3 million on a “FastForward Miami” initiative, with construction in Miami Beach to get underway in fall 2016. Top internet speeds will be doubled to 250 Mbps, and the upgrades will enable wide-scale availability of Gigabit Internet service.
Comcast has said they would offer gigabit service in Miami by the end of 2016, and could be entering the Miami Beach market to compete with Atlantic Broadband. The company recently began offering service to business customers in Miami Beach, and Comcast trucks have been seen installing cable throughout the city.
