Google has compiled satellite imagery showing how Miami (and the earth) has changed over the past 32 years.
Since it was released, Google’s most popular timelapse video worldwide has been that of Miami, where the expansion of suburbs in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach is obvious from above:
Zooming in, one can see the changes in the downtown area.
While the suburbs were growing nearly continuously since the 80s, growth in downtown is most obvious after 2000 – a trend that has been accelerating as suburban land has been built out.
Dozens of high-rise towers have sprung up in Downtown, Brickell and Edgewater. An entire neighborhood can be seen growing in around the former rail yard at Midtown Miami, which spans ten square blocks.
