Is Trader Joe’s Looking To Open On Biscayne Boulevard?

Trader Joe’s might be trying to open a location on Biscayne Boulevard.

Broker Lyle Chariff told The Real Deal last week that he has had “interest from Trader Joe’s and Publix-type tenants” in Boulevard 57, a mixed-use project planned at Biscayne Boulevard and 57th Street. The developer of the project said that he was moving forward with the retail portion while putting residential condo sales on hold.

At Boulevard 57, parking may be an issue. The project had been planned with an underground, robotic garage.

Trader Joe’s last signed a lease in Miami-Dade in 2012, and all area stores that have been opened since then have been in Broward or Palm Beach. The sole Miami-Dade store in Pinecrest is difficult to access for most Miami residents due to a lack of parking and an area that is heavily congested.

Parking is always an issue at Traders Joe’s… it’s a thing google it. Also, the condos are way too overpriced for this neighborhood and location. They need to rethink the finishes and amenities for more sensible buyers. No one wants to pay top dollar for a condo that has loitering and vagrancy down the street. It’s still and up and coming neighborhood.

It’s right across the street from Morningside, which is one of Miami’s best neighborhoods. Yes it’s gated because it didn’t want to have the “loitering and vagrancy down the street,” but that will change shortly. I’d be more concerned about across the tracks, and whether Little Haiti will eventually accept REvitalization as Lemon City/Little River like it used to before the Haitian leaders, who presently live either in North Miami or Miramar, or went back.

How about a boutique Trader Joe’s on Kane Concourse in Bay Harbor Islands?! There’s no active retail but Church by the Sea is building a large retail building and two boutique hotels are opening within 18 months. Locals in 33154 zip code could actually walk to Trader Joe’s! Imagine an urban area by the beach where cars are not required?! Hooray!

This is why we need to improve public transportation in this area. This one business is losing customers, sales, and the ability to hire more people because we have a county that doesn’t want to invest in its infrastructure as long as it’s pockets are stuffed by those that want to continue to have this already congested area with more cars and have cars be the primary way to travel.
