Tree Permit Approved At Potential Brickell Key Supertall Site

A tree permit has just been approved for a potential supertall property at the south end of Brickell Key.

Approval was granted on May 30. The tree permit application was filed on January 20.

A total of 10 trees are approved to be removed, with another 3 prohibited species trees to be removed. The permit also shows 25 tree relocations and 4 tree replacement plantings.

Swire Jadeco LLC, C/O Swire Properties is listed as the owner on the permit.

A construction permit application for what is listed as a temporary sales center on the same site is still undergoing pre-screening as of this morning.

In December, a filing with the FAA proposed a tower height on the property of 1,049 feet, with a second adjacent tower rising 700 feet.

The good news is the supertall tower will sit mostly empty year around like the supertalls in billionaire road in New York. It’s just an investment for the super rich to park their money, thus not generating a lot of traffic in and out of that little key.

And they’re paying property taxes which will help the city

That’s true of 80% of South Florida developments bahahah

And more power to them! Thanks to those investors, we will have a beautiful tower to look at on Brickell Key instead of just outdated stucco buildings.

How do you know it will be beautiful and, furthermore, isn’t it all relative anyway? You could end up with a 432 Park Avenue or 111 West 57th Street. Both are considered eyesores. Bigger and taller doesn’t equate beautiful. Be careful what you wish for.

I’ll take either of those two “eyesores” over anything currently on BK.

Steinway Tower, yes. I wouldn’t wish 432 Park Avenue on any city skyline.

For your information, 111 West 57th Street is considered to be a masterpiece by most architectural critics.

Right. The ones who call these eyesores would hate on any building in which ultra rich people live.

What does that have to do with anything? A building’s aesthetic appeal has nothing to do with its residents, be they on public assistance or ultra wealthy. There are plenty of spectacular buildings the world over designed for the affluent and others that are not.

Right, “outdated stucco buildings,” that have maintained high property values and will outlive anything built on Edgewater or by Melo within the last ten years.

I’m with you on Melo but not with the Edgewater dig. There are some masterpieces in Edgewater. Brickell Key…. not so much. The extremely outdated buildings on BK that have held their value can thank their proximity to Brickell for that.

Talking about eyesores…. What was the reason to turn the office building on BK in something out of Doral or Blue Lagoon ?

The same reason One Broadway has also been mutilated and every megamansion is a box. Current architectural trends don’t favor nice things to look at, rather overzealous pricks who throw around “iconic” and “game changer.”

Emperor’s New Architecture. 😉

You can’t possibly think One Broadway was fine as it was, right? That thing was really really bad.

We do not want the building. We like the island as it is. The park is beautiful

Well we do want it! Guess which side is going to win this battle?

There goes another park. Just sad.

Don’t get your panties in a wad yet. There is reason to believe the development will incorporate a considerable amount of green space into the final product. In the meantime, there are plenty of great parks just a short Mover ride away in Downtown!

But it’s hiiis park and he doesn’t want to walk further than a block away from a Metromover stop.

It’s not even his park. It was someone’s private land he was using.

Here we go again

Agreed and the fact that the development is using the ability to not have to abide by coastline developments that the rest of Miami does has me concerned. I could see them turning that whole corner of the island into a private area. I walk around the key on a near daily basis as do thousands of others. Once again the greed in Miami is letting down those of us that live here.

What a ridiculous need of bureaucracy for a tree permit. Just slice and mow and move on with life.
