UDRB Unanimously Approves 54-Story Downtown 6th

A proposal to build a 54-story tower called Downtown 6th easily passed review by Miami’s Urban Development Review Board.

The UDRB vote to recommend approval was at its February 15 meeting unanimous.

Two recommendations were given by the board to the designers of the tower:

  • Evaluate the relationship between the historic building (church) across the street
  • Simplify the design language with the horizontal and vertical aspects

The developer of the tower, Melo Group, has reputation for building quickly.

Melo completed two adjacent 53-story towers called Downtown 5th, with top off taking place just 47 weeks after foundation work began.

Demolition at the Downtown 6th site was completed in 2019. As of this morning, there does not yet appear to be a construction permit.

Downtown 6th is planned to include:

  • 824 residential units
  • 2,427 square feet of commercial space
  • 639 parking spaces, with a garage masked with habitable liner units

The Church is not across the street, it is directly adjacent to the tower. Also, what exactly is the relationship between the two? I see none. Looking forward to seeing it go up though!

There is no relationship.

So the church isn’t dwarfed by a hellscape.

Can’t emphasize enough how much I like the hiding of the parking. All buildings with parking podiums should be required to do something like this instead.

Should be given special consideration when this is done.

Thank goodness that Melo realizes that this area of the CBD is the one with the most need for housing. Density for the win!

Although it is not a piece of art. It is a million times better than the twin tower monstrosity next door. Little by little it will get hidden .

Glad the UDRB didn’t waste any oxygen like when Downtown 1st was before them, and the comments about how the entire building plan should be changed so the pool could be moved to an area with “better light.”

Where? I live at Downtown 5th and it’s still just a parking lot. I believe you have the lot confused with another.

Maybe not irregular windows and balconies, although this one is a clean design compared to Downtown 5th…

Nothing going on there. A lot of folks feel positive on that one since they relaunched sales and drilled those test holes, but I’m not one of them. The folks behind that one are a giant cluster of an organization with poor leadership and track record. Just be happy seem to be getting Una out of them.

If only they gave the exact same recommendations to Downtown 5th. Maybe they learned their lesson?

Another design from 2004, this time taller cereal box. Remember this building in the future, 55 stories of walkable dogs on a street.
