Ultra In Negotiations To Move To Virginia Key After Downtown Miami Residents Block Use Of Bayfront Park

A handful of downtown Miami residents appear to have successfully blocked Ultra Music Festival from returning to Bayfront Park.

Instead, festival organizers are now in negotiation to move to Virginia Key, according to the Herald.

Commissioners voted unanimously last month to reject a new contract for use of Bayfront Park. Among those voting against the deal was Bayfront Trust head Joe Carollo, who had been negotiating that the rent to be paid by Ultra would double.

Ultra has been held in downtown Miami for 18 years.

A preliminary hearing on the use of Virginia Key is scheduled by city commissioners on November 15.

As part of the deal, Ultra could help build an African-American museum in Virginia Key Beach Park in order to win support from commissioner Keon Hardemon.
