‘Urbanist’ Parking Garage Next To Brickell City Centre Is Nearing Completion

A 12-story parking garage at Brickell World Plaza that developers say is “Urbanist” friendly is nearing completion.

Representatives of the developer said in their application to build the garage that it was designed with Miami 21’s urbanist goals “to the greatest extent possible.” New ground floor restaurant space

The project will include 23,168 square feet of restaurant space and 553 parking spaces.

Ground floor spaces will be lined with as 7,000 square feet of restaurant space, along with landscaping designed to further activate Brickell’s bustling pedestrian activity.  Loading will be internalized and driveways will be minimized.

The 12-story height is temporary, according to a letter from the developer’s attorney. A future phase will include up to 360 hotel units, 134 condo units, and an additional 770 parking spaces in a 904-foot tower

Only in Miami is a parking garage considered urban.

Anonymous

I know, it is infuriatingly funny

Anonymous

A parking garage abutting the Metromover ??!!! Bwaaaahahahaha !! The parking podium haters are going to explode !

Anonymous

brilliant idea: drive into Brickell and take the metro mover to bayfront park

Anonymous

Or you could walk from Brickell to the park because, you know, you want to keep from turning into another fatass.

Anonymous

What’s wrong with being a fatass? My husband likes me with all my curves and Imperfections.

Anonymous

The parking rates are going to be out of this world.. I have paid over $35 for under the three hours at the tower’s garage..

Joel

“urbanist” garage is an oxymoron

Anonymous

Another project that continues to make Brickell one of the most pedestrian friendly neighborhoods in Miami, LOL!

Anonymous

You nailed it.
Precisely why Brickell streets are lifeless

Anonymous

Brickell is thriving and safe

Anonymous

if you are going build a parking garage at least not make it look ugly!!! Wtf! This looks like an airport parking garage. Why does a garage need to be a square why not a circle or a triangle?? the design district garages look amazing this has no Miami flavor.

Anonymous

What?
What are you vaping?
Miami is the capital of square, no crown buildings

Anon

Architecturally and logically, there are many reasons triangles or circles don’t work for parking cars. Open your third eye and think a little…

Look up Chicago’s Marina City.

Anonymous

Helloooo
Chicago

Anonymous

Have you seen it? Its a garage. Brickell isn’t dead like the design district is most of the times

Anonymous

Looks better than that ridiculous guitar hotel in Broward.

Anonymous

The only good thing about this is it’s not a parking lot. I love how urbanist is in quotes.

Anonymous

Irony.

Anonymous

If there is one thing Brickell needs it’s more cars and more parking spaces.

marc

and water fronting ones at that.

Anonymous

If I had a business in Brickell and cars are bringing people to my joint, dang right, the more the merrier.

Anonymous

Parking lovers should look up the ULI’s recommendations to the city of Miami’s zoning laws.

Anonymous

Sorry but when I’m out and about, I do love it when I don’t have to drive around looking for a place to park or fight over a parking spot.

Anonymous

Take an Uber/Lyft.

Anonymous

Okay I will, only if you pay the cost for the Uber/Lyft every time I take one of them.

Anonymous

Cost of parking is more expensive than an Uber/Lyft (for many people living close to downtown).
Actually, if you do the math on the (1) cost of a car + (2) cost of insurance + (3) cost of gas and maintenance + (4) cost of parking / tickets / license plates / etc…….. taking Uber/ Lyft / etc . = Far cheaper (at least for now as Uber and Lyft do not seem to profit yet as companies).

Anonymous

Sure, if you’re just going to a specific destination then Uber/Lyft is cheaper. But for the everyday running around plus going to work and back home, noway will calling for Uber or Lyft is going to be cheaper on a monthly basis.

A massive parking garage in the middle of brickell is called urbanist lol

Paul

Does anyone remember the foundation pour for this parking garage? If it really is the base of a 900 ft tower, the foundation should have been massive. If we go back and look at the foundation pour, we can easily fact check their claim about the future tower.

Anonymous

It’s false. I remember reading a story on TNM a while ago stating they will build the tower next to this garage. Hopefully, they will build something on top of the garage so it’s not so pointless.

Anonymous

The foundation will not support any tower. See the pictures: https://www.thenextmiami.com/vertical-construction-underway-at-brickell-world-plaza/

William

This is one of the few developments in brickell with a public plaza built and maintained privately using no public dollars. The activation of a vacant parcel with restaurant and additional parking is good for the area. This family should be recognized for the investment they have made in Miami and the exceptional public plaza. I have no relationship with them. Just my opinion.

Anonymous

No. They built a giant parking garage in the middle of a vibrant city. Cars are the enemy of walkable pedestrian friendly neighborhoods.

Anonymous

So, you don’t have nowhere to park your car at any establishments you go to in your neighborhood?

Anonymous

Vibrant?
No way man

Anonymous

Thanks William. About time somebody talks with some sense instead of reading more griping.

Urban Realist

Say hello to the new location of the River Oyster Bar plus more restaurants. The sister tower to 600 Brickell is not on top of this garage. It will be next to this which will be a public plaza until the tower gets built.

Anonymous

I knew this would be some extreme outrage bait when I saw the headline and I was not disappointed by the comments.

Anonymous

Yeah, and if these outraged commenters were to go to Brickell, they’d damn sure want someplace to park their car in.

Anonymous

We took the bus and metromover to Brickell last time we went.

Anonymous

Cause you know… 770 MORE parking spaces is exactly what Brickell needs!

Anonymous

Dang.. see, I told them that all Brickell needed was you!

Anonymous

About as urbanist as Mana slumming up historic core properties is a “game changer.”

Isn’t The River Oyster House Moving into this?
