Voting is now underway for the artwork that will appear on the side of Norwegian Cruise Line’s new PortMiami terminal.
The winning piece will be displayed on a 126-feet tall by 62-feet wide wall facing the MacArthur Causeway. The artist will begin painting in May 2020 and finish work by June 4, with an unveiling scheduled for June 13.
It will be in place for a year. Norwegian says it is the first of an annual contest for the space. This year, the winner will receive a $100,000 cash prize, and a 10 day cruise residency worth $15,000.
Norwegian is spending $215 million on the new cruise terminal, called the Pearl of Miami.
The new terminal is forecast to have 1.2 million passengers, plus millions of others will pass by on other cruise ships and in cars on the causeway.
