Work Underway On Pedestrian Bridge At Entrance To South Beach

A developer mobilized yesterday to begin construction on a colorful pedestrian bridge at the entrance to South Beach, according to Local10.

The bridge is being designed by French artist Daniel Buren, and is titled Walking In, Along and Under the Colors.

Pedestrians will be able to cross from the South of Fifth baywalk to a recently completed park.

The park and bridge are being built as part of approval for the adjacent Five Park tower, which opened in November as the tallest building in the city.

The first phase will include the installation of temporary construction fencing, followed by relocation of underground utilities on Fifth Street.

Excavation for foundations of the pedestrian bridge pedestals on the north and south sides of the causeway is scheduled to occur a few months later.

The anticipated completion is summer/fall of 2026.

Yep hilarious. Did it really only take the Empire State Building to be built in 1 year?!! (as the comedian said)

Yes, pre-OSHA.
5 workers died during construction.

Someone was bashing my comment a couple of weeks ago saying this bridge wasn’t going to happen… Glad to see they were proven wrong.

I’m glad it’s happening.
But a year for a bridge is kinda wild.
Then again we’ve waited this long.

The bridge will be great to have there. Hopefully the colors don’t look as garish as in the rendering.

2 years to build a bridge? What about our train system connecting the beach to the main land. This needs to be considered when designing this bridge!

A train connection was considered and decided against. Hence the reason this took so long to start and 500 Park is already completed. No Train.

The train system connecting the mainland to Miami Beach failed miserably. It went out of business in 1939.

Unfortunately, Miami Beach residents have been fighting and preventing a MetroRail extension for many decades.

Only a vociferous rich few in the south of fifth neighborhood.

This shit is gonna speed up all the traffic because the residents will only see this as a checker flag

Five Park Tower was built in less time…Miami is a joke…

Terrible design. This should have been incorporated into a station for a mass transit solution connecting the beach to downtown. Lost opportunity.

And it should have been a requirement that it was finished before the tower was allowed to open.

Will the metro mover/ bay link go above it ? The icon building people won’t be happy … lol

Nobody will be happy with Metromoober, except trust fund babies who don’t like paying Metrorail fees and want a free ride to their clubs to buy hundreds of dollars worth of drinks.

we are not great at building quick pedestrian bridges, FIU anyone…and the point of view that no one crosses currently so it’s not needed is a wild take on life and development.

Is this real?

Nobody is walking there without a metro rail.

huh

…and how does it connect to a Metrorail station?

Extremely low effort and offensive design. Would have been much better without the rainbow colored tube section.

It’s not a pride flag design. It’s just regular colorful like Britto.

Yes, there is a ramp along “500 Park” that leads to Canopy Park.
